To get real-time weather in a flight simulator, connect the simulator to the internet, enable its Live Weather, Real Weather or online weather option, and set the flight to the present date and time. If the built-in feed is unavailable—common with older simulators—use a compatible third-party weather engine.
Real-time weather is usually near-live rather than instantaneous. Simulators combine reporting-station observations, forecast models and interpolation, so conditions may be several minutes behind and will not reproduce every cloud or gust exactly. How do I turn on real-time weather?
- Connect to the simulator's online services. An internet connection alone may not be enough; online data or weather downloads must also be enabled in the simulator's settings.
- Set the present date and time. This keeps daylight, seasonal conditions and the downloaded weather aligned. Live weather normally does not mean historical weather when an earlier date is selected.
- Select the live weather source. Look for an option named Live Weather, Real Weather, real-world weather or online weather. Choose it before loading the flight where possible.
- Allow the weather to initialise. Clouds and winds may take a short time to appear after entering the cockpit. Avoid switching immediately to a preset, because that replaces the live data.
- Check a reporting airport. Compare the simulator's surface wind, visibility and pressure with a recent METAR for the nearest airport. Small differences are normal; completely clear skies or calm winds everywhere usually indicate that live weather did not load.
- Run only one weather source. A built-in service and an external weather engine can overwrite each other, causing abrupt changes or conditions that repeatedly reset.

On consoles, built-in online weather is normally the practical option because PC weather engines cannot usually be installed or connected. A third-party engine makes most sense on PC when a legacy feed has closed, the built-in weather is unreliable, or a specific feature such as archived conditions is explicitly supported.
Why does live weather not match the METAR exactly?
A METAR describes conditions at one airport and one reporting time; it is not a complete three-dimensional weather map. The simulator may blend that observation with modelled cloud layers, winds aloft and nearby stations, then smooth the transition as the aircraft moves.
Check that the METAR comes from the same airport and reporting period before treating a difference as a fault. Pressure and surface wind should usually be recognisable, but cloud shape, visibility boundaries, precipitation and gusts can differ because of interpolation and update timing.
Why is real-time weather not working?

Can live weather be used with a past date or time?
Usually, selecting an earlier simulator time changes the lighting but does not request weather from that historical moment. The simulator may continue injecting the latest available conditions. For a past flight, use a simulator or compatible weather engine that explicitly supports archived weather; otherwise choose a manual preset based on the historical METAR.
