How do I set up AIG Traffic Controller for live traffic in MSFS 2024?

Adam McEnroe
In short

Set up AIG Traffic Controller in MSFS 2024, install the required models, prevent duplicate aircraft and fix common SimConnect injection problems.

To use AIG Traffic Controller in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, install AIG’s AI Manager, Traffic Controller, aircraft, liveries and schedules; disable MSFS’s built-in AI/live traffic; load a flight; then connect AIGTC through SimConnect and start injection. It provides schedule-based traffic, not position-for-position live tracking, and works only on Windows PC.

What must be installed before AIGTC can inject traffic?

AIG Traffic Controller needs an installed AIG aircraft library and flight-plan database; the controller alone cannot create properly modelled traffic. Aircraft provide the 3D models, liveries supply airline colours, and schedules tell AIGTC which flights to inject.

Use our complete AIG aircraft, livery and schedule installation walkthrough for the AI Manager and OCI stage. Install only the airlines and operators you expect to see at first; an enormous library makes faults harder to isolate.

AIGTC is an external Windows application. It cannot run alongside the Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 or PS5 Pro versions of MSFS 2024 because consoles do not permit this type of SimConnect utility.

How do I configure AIG Traffic Controller in MSFS 2024?

The reliable setup order is to prepare the AIG library, remove competing traffic sources, load the simulator and connect AIGTC last.

  1. Install an MSFS 2024-compatible build. Use AIG components that explicitly support MSFS 2024 rather than carrying over an unattended installation from MSFS 2020.
  2. Check the OCI package location. AI Manager’s generated packages must be visible to the Community folder used by MSFS 2024. A common mistake is leaving them linked only to the separate MSFS 2020 Community folder.
  3. Install aircraft, liveries and schedules. Having models without airline flight plans produces no scheduled departures. Missing models or liveries can instead produce invisible, generic or incorrectly painted aircraft.
  4. Disable competing simulator traffic. Turn off MSFS’s built-in live and offline AI traffic before injection. Set ground-aircraft density to zero or very low so static aircraft do not occupy gates required by AIGTC. Multiplayer can remain enabled, although disabling it gives a cleaner first test.
  5. Load a flight before opening AIGTC. Place the aircraft at a medium or large airport and wait until the flight is fully loaded. Start Traffic Controller, select MSFS 2024 and the installed OCI database if prompted, then confirm that its SimConnect status shows a connection. Our MSFS 2024 injector connection guide explains the underlying SimConnect and Community-folder checks.
  6. Start traffic injection. Use a modest aircraft limit and injection radius for the first test. Allow time for the controller to read schedules and create aircraft; a quiet regional airport may legitimately have no matching flights at that hour.

Is AIG Traffic Controller actually live traffic?

AIGTC’s normal traffic is based on downloaded airline schedules, not a live feed of each real aircraft’s position. It can recreate plausible flights using real operators and timetables, but it will not necessarily reflect a delay, diversion or cancellation happening in the real world.

MSFS Live TrafficMicrosoft’s online real-world traffic feedNative live traffic on; AIGTC injection off

If exact real-world movement is the priority, use MSFS Live Traffic rather than AIGTC’s scheduled injection. Do not run both together: duplicate callsigns, aircraft occupying the same gate and excessive traffic are the usual results.

Why does AIGTC connect but show no aircraft?

A connected status with an empty airport usually means the schedule library, package path or injection filters are wrong rather than SimConnect itself.

  • No flight plans: confirm that AI Manager installed schedules as well as aircraft models.
  • Wrong Community folder: verify that MSFS 2024 can see the AIG packages and that they are not linked solely to another simulator installation.
  • No matching traffic: test at a busy airport during normal operating hours and relax restrictive airline, distance or aircraft-count filters.
  • Disconnected controller: load into a flight first, allow the application through Windows security prompts and avoid running the simulator and controller under different privilege levels.
  • Invisible aircraft: repair the affected model or livery package in AI Manager; restarting injection cannot replace a missing SimObject.

For a wider diagnostic sequence, follow our checks for missing injected traffic in MSFS 2024.

How do I prevent duplicate traffic and low frame rates?

Use one AI traffic source and begin with conservative injection limits. AIGTC, native live traffic, offline AI and another injector should not all be generating aircraft together.

Reduce the controller’s aircraft cap or injection radius before removing models. Airport ground-aircraft density, road vehicles, workers and service vehicles also consume CPU time at large hubs; our traffic performance settings guide identifies which limits to lower first.
