Why is AI traffic not showing in MSFS 2024?

Fix AI traffic not showing in MSFS 2024 by checking traffic mode, density, online services, injectors, model libraries and add-on conflicts.
Adam McEnroe

AI traffic usually disappears in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 because the traffic source is off, density is set to zero, online services are unavailable, or a PC traffic injector is not running or cannot find its model library. Check built-in traffic first, then isolate add-ons; multiplayer aircraft are controlled separately.

How do I get AI traffic back in MSFS 2024?

The quickest diagnosis is to test simulator-generated offline traffic before troubleshooting live traffic or an external injector.

  1. Select one traffic source. In the simulator's traffic settings, choose the offline AI option rather than Off, real-time traffic or multiplayer. Setting names can vary slightly between platforms and simulator updates.
  2. Raise active aircraft density. Make sure the AI aircraft density and any related traffic limits are above zero. Airport vehicle density affects service vehicles, not aeroplanes.
  3. Reload the flight. Return to the flight-planning screen and load again at a major airport. Traffic-source changes do not always repopulate an airport already in memory.
  4. Allow time for spawning. Wait several minutes and check both the gates and the sky. An injector may build traffic gradually rather than filling every stand immediately.
  5. Test without add-ons. On PC, temporarily disable traffic packages and start with an empty Community folder. Do not delete the files; the aim is to establish whether built-in AI works in a clean simulator.
  6. Add the traffic tool back last. Enable its model library, start the injector and confirm that it reports a connection to MSFS 2024. Check that its aircraft limits, airport radius and parked-aircraft settings are not zero.

If offline AI appears, the simulator's traffic engine is working. The fault is then with the real-time feed, online settings or the add-on injector rather than the base installation.

Which MSFS 2024 traffic mode should I use?

Choose offline AI for diagnosis, real-time online traffic for feed-based aircraft, multiplayer for other pilots, and an injector when you specifically want its schedules and model matching.

Traffic sourceWhat it displaysMain requirement
Offline AISimulator-generated flightsTraffic enabled with density above zero
Real-time onlineAircraft obtained from the online aviation feedOnline functionality, a working connection and an active service
MultiplayerOther human-controlled aircraftMultiplayer enabled and compatible visibility settings
External injectorFlights created by a separate traffic programCompatible PC software, a simulator connection and installed models

Real-time traffic can legitimately be sparse at a quiet airport or during its local night, and the feed does not represent every real aircraft. If that mode alone fails, check our detailed steps for repairing missing live traffic and online services.

Why is an AI traffic injector running but showing no aircraft?

An injector can connect successfully yet display nothing when its model library is missing, installed in the wrong location or incompatible with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.

  • Wrong Community folder: MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024 can use different package locations. Copying models into the older simulator's folder does not make them available to MSFS 2024. Our PC setup and Community folder guidance explains how to verify the active installation.
  • Injector not started: Installing aircraft models alone does not create flights. Programs such as FSLTL require the injector component to be launched separately on PC.
  • Built-in and injected traffic mixed: Many injectors expect built-in AI or real-time traffic to be disabled. Mixing both systems can produce duplicate aircraft, occupied gates or inconsistent spawning.
  • Zero limits or restrictive filters: Check maximum active aircraft, parked aircraft, injection radius and airport filters inside the traffic tool.
  • Outdated MSFS 2020 package: A model or traffic add-on that worked in MSFS 2020 is not automatically compatible with MSFS 2024. Disable old packages until their developer explicitly supports the newer simulator.

If FSLTL is the affected injector, our MSFS troubleshooting library includes dedicated guidance for FSLTL loading without AI aircraft.

Why can I hear AI traffic but not see it?

Hearing ATC address aircraft while seeing empty taxiways usually indicates a model-rendering or model-matching problem rather than a missing traffic feed.

  • Confirm that the required base models and liveries are installed and enabled.
  • Remove duplicate or obsolete model libraries that may be overriding one another.
  • Check whether aircraft are visible in the air but absent at gates; ground-aircraft density and available parking positions are separate constraints.
  • Test a default airport. Custom scenery with missing, undersized or incorrectly defined parking positions may prevent airliners from spawning on stands.

Generic liveries do not mean traffic has failed. They usually mean MSFS received the flight but could not match it to a suitable aircraft type or operator livery.

Can AI traffic injectors work on Xbox or PlayStation?

Desktop traffic injectors are PC-only because they depend on a separate Windows application, local model files and a simulator connection.

On Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro, use MSFS 2024's built-in offline or real-time traffic and compatible in-simulator content. Windows instructions involving an executable or the Community folder do not apply to consoles.

Can performance settings remove AI traffic?

Traffic is CPU-intensive, but a completely empty airport usually points to a disabled source, zero density or a failed injector rather than low frame rate alone.

Density may have been reduced during earlier performance troubleshooting, so recheck every aircraft traffic limit. Increase it gradually rather than setting all traffic sliders to maximum; our MSFS 2024 performance guidance covers the balance between traffic volume, airport activity and CPU load.
