Does Train Sim World have Indian Railways routes or add-ons?

Adam McEnroe
In short

Find out if Train Sim World has Indian Railways routes, what community add-ons can do, and why MSTS or Classic files will not work.

No official Indian Railways route or locomotive DLC has been released for Train Sim World. Community liveries and scenarios can give compatible trains an Indian-inspired appearance, while PC mods or Editor projects may go further, but these options do not provide a finished, officially supported Indian railway network.

What Indian Railways content is available for Train Sim World?

The available options are community-made approximations or unfinished projects rather than a complete Indian route and train package.

Content typeAvailabilityWhat it provides
Official Indian route DLCNot releasedNo commercial Train Sim World recreation of an Indian Railways line
Official Indian locomotive DLCNot releasedNo native Indian cab, physics, sounds or operating systems
Creators Club contentMay varyLiveries and scenarios using trains and routes already supported by the game
Unofficial PC modsProject-dependentPossible repaints, substitutions or other modifications, usually requiring existing DLC
PC Editor projectsPossible in principleCommunity route-building work, but only a completed and distributed project is playable

Our overview of the countries and railway networks represented in Train Sim World shows the official geographical coverage and helps distinguish released routes from requested or community-planned ones.

Is an Indian repaint the same as an Indian Railways add-on?

No. A repaint changes the exterior livery of an existing locomotive or multiple unit; it does not replace its body shape, cab, traction equipment, sounds, physics, safety systems or track gauge.

A community scenario can place that repainted train on an existing route, but the stations, signalling and railway environment still belong to the original route. Most such items also require the donor locomotive and route DLC, so subscribing to a design does not grant the underlying train.

Before treating a community upload as new rolling stock, check what Creators Club can share and which dependencies it cannot include. This is especially important when a convincing thumbnail makes a repaint look like a separate locomotive model.

Why will an Indian train download not work in Train Sim World?

The usual cause is that the download was made for a different train simulator, not for Train Sim World.

  • Microsoft Train Simulator or Open Rails: Packages commonly use MSTS-era assets such as .eng and .wag files. Train Sim World cannot read them.
  • Train Simulator Classic: Its routes and .ap packages use a different engine and content format. Despite the similar name, Classic add-ons are not Train Sim World DLC.
  • Trainz: Content distributed in formats such as .cdp is also incompatible.
  • Wrong Train Sim World release: An unofficial mod may expect a particular game installation, route revision or folder structure.
  • Missing base DLC: Many repaints contain only replacement textures and therefore need the original locomotive or route.

Some PC community mods use .pak files, but compatibility still depends on the Train Sim World release and required DLC. Follow our PC mod installation, dependency and removal guidance rather than copying files between simulator folders. Xbox and PlayStation cannot sideload arbitrary PC mod files; they are limited to official content and supported in-game sharing.

Can the Train Sim World Editor create a full Indian route?

A skilled PC creator can build an Indian route project, but the Editor does not automatically convert an MSTS, Open Rails or Train Simulator Classic route into Train Sim World.

An authentic mainline project would need suitable terrain, station models, signalling logic, electrification, a working timetable and appropriate rolling stock. Most Indian main lines use 1,676 mm broad gauge, so placing Indian-style scenery around an existing standard-gauge route would not reproduce the railway accurately. A video or screenshot of work in progress also does not mean a packaged download has been released.

Which option should you choose?

  • For an Indian-themed Train Sim World experience: Use a compatible community livery or scenario, accepting that the underlying train and route remain non-Indian.
  • For PC experimentation: Consider a clearly labelled Train Sim World mod or Editor project, verify its dependencies and be prepared to remove it after game updates.
  • For authentic Indian operations: Use an Indian route and rolling-stock package made specifically for its stated simulator. Legacy Indian add-ons cannot be transferred into Train Sim World by renaming files or changing the installation folder.
