Are there New Zealand routes or trains in Train Sim World?

No. Train Sim World has no officially released route set in New Zealand and no purpose-built New Zealand locomotive or multiple-unit add-on. KiwiRail, Auckland and Wellington stock is therefore not driveable as authentic rolling stock; community liveries can imitate its appearance, but they do not add the correct train, cab, physics or railway.

Which New Zealand routes and trains are missing?

Every released Train Sim World route is outside New Zealand, and no locomotive DLC represents a New Zealand class. Our country-by-country guide to the available TSW routes shows which national networks are represented.

• Routes: there is no official North Island Main Trunk, Auckland suburban, Wellington commuter or South Island main-line recreation.
• Rolling stock: there are no authentic KiwiRail locomotives, Auckland electric units or Wellington commuter trains.
• Operations: TSW has no New Zealand timetable, station environment or complete local signalling implementation.

New Zealand’s national rail network uses 1,067 mm (3 ft 6 in) gauge. A convincing add-on would therefore require suitable track geometry, signalling, scenery and purpose-built rolling stock; repainting a standard-gauge European or North American train would not reproduce it accurately.

Changing Train Sim World edition or buying a larger bundle does not reveal hidden New Zealand content. Bundles contain only their named routes and locomotives, so the included-content list is what matters.

Can Creators Club add New Zealand trains?

Creators Club can provide a New Zealand theme, but it cannot create an authentic route or train. As covered in our explanation of what Creators Club can actually change, shared creations use supported trains and routes that already exist in TSW.

• Liveries can repaint a compatible donor train.
• Scenarios can place existing stock on an existing route.
• They cannot add New Zealand track, alter the gauge or replace the cab, body model, sounds, braking and traction physics.

A mistake we see often is treating a KiwiRail name or thumbnail as proof that somebody has added the real locomotive. If the creation uses a British, German or American donor model, it remains that train underneath the paint. You will also need to own any route or locomotive DLC used by the creation.

Could a New Zealand route be made with the PC Editor?

Yes, a custom New Zealand route could be attempted on PC, but that is a creator project rather than an available route add-on. Our guide to the PC Editor’s tools and limitations explains the route-building workflow in more detail.

A credible project would need:

• accurate terrain, track alignment and 1,067 mm track geometry;
• local signals, operating rules, stations and lineside assets;
• a working timetable and appropriate AI traffic;
• bespoke rolling stock with the correct cab, sounds and physics.

Building rolling stock is a separate and substantially harder task than laying a route, with additional editor and packaging constraints. Editor access also does not guarantee that a project can be installed on a console, so console players should not assume that an announced PC project will become usable there.

What is the best alternative for New Zealand rail simulation?

Train Simulator Classic is the practical alternative when an actual New Zealand setting matters more than remaining in Train Sim World.

Train Simulator Classic and Train Sim World are separate programs. Routes, locomotives, purchases and saved content do not transfer between them, and an add-on labelled for Train Simulator Classic cannot be installed into Train Sim World.
