To update the FlyByWire A380X in Microsoft Flight Simulator on PC, close the simulator, open the FlyByWire Installer, select the correct MSFS 2020 or MSFS 2024 profile, choose A380X, and run the offered update. Let the installer finish before launching the sim; do not overwrite it manually at the same time.
How do I update the A380X with the FlyByWire Installer?
The FlyByWire Installer is the recommended update method because it replaces the managed A380X package in the Community folder assigned to the selected simulator profile. Microsoft Flight Simulator's own content library does not update an A380X installed as a third-party Community package.
- Close Microsoft Flight Simulator. Quit to the desktop rather than leaving the simulator at its main menu, as package files may otherwise remain in use.
- Open the FlyByWire Installer. If the installer offers to update itself, complete that first and reopen it if requested.
- Select the correct simulator profile. MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024 can use different Community folders. Check that the chosen profile matches the simulator installation you actually launch.
- Confirm the installation path. If the Community location looks wrong, follow our checks for choosing the correct A380X Community folder before proceeding.
- Open the A380X entry and run the update. Keep your existing release channel unless you deliberately want to change it; the channels offered can vary.
- Wait for installation to finish. Do not start MSFS while the installer is downloading, extracting or replacing the aircraft files.
Installer or manual update: which should I use?
Use the Installer for an aircraft it already manages; use the manual method only when your existing A380X was installed from an archive and you intend to maintain it that way.

How do I update a manually installed A380X?
A manual update should replace the old aircraft completely rather than merge new files over it. A merged installation can retain obsolete files that cause missing cockpit systems, loading failures or crashes.
- Close MSFS and the FlyByWire Installer.
- Find the active Community folder. Make sure it belongs to the MSFS 2020 or MSFS 2024 profile you use.
- Move or delete the old A380X package. Keep any backup outside Community so the simulator cannot detect it as another add-on.
- Obtain a complete replacement. Our downloadable A380X package for manual installation provides the relevant aircraft files and installation guidance.
- Extract one package into Community. Avoid an extra nested folder created by extracting an archive into a same-named directory.
Why does the Installer show Install instead of Update?
An Install button usually means the selected profile does not contain an A380X installation that the Installer recognises. It can also mean you selected the wrong simulator, the aircraft was installed manually, or the existing package was moved or renamed.
- Check whether MSFS 2020 or MSFS 2024 is selected.
- Verify that the displayed Community path is the one used by the simulator.
- Look for an old A380X copy in a different Community folder.
- Restart the Installer so it can refresh the package state.
- Check available disk space and folder permissions if the update starts but fails.

Do I need to uninstall the old A380X first?
No uninstall is required for a normal Installer-managed update; the Installer handles the managed package. Remove the old copy first only when changing from a manual installation, correcting duplicate packages, or repairing an installation whose files are damaged.
A mistake we see constantly is leaving a renamed backup inside Community. MSFS may still scan it, so move backups completely outside that folder.
What if the A380X stops working after an update?
A post-update failure is usually caused by the wrong simulator profile, duplicate aircraft folders, an incomplete download or an incompatible A380-specific livery or add-on.
- Confirm the simulator is fully updated. Aircraft builds may depend on changes delivered with an MSFS update.
- Leave only one A380X package active. Check every Community folder associated with your simulator installations.
- Temporarily remove A380X liveries and related modifications. Test the base aircraft before adding them back individually.
- Repair through the same installation method. Installer users should remove and reinstall through the Installer; manual users should replace the package cleanly.

Can I update the FlyByWire A380X on Xbox or PlayStation?
The FlyByWire Installer and manual Community-folder package are PC installation methods. Xbox Series X|S, PS5 and PS5 Pro do not allow users to copy these PC add-on files into a Community folder, so the update procedure above does not apply on consoles.
