Learn why the FlyByWire A380X is PC-only in MSFS, why Xbox and PS5 cannot install it, and what to check before choosing a console A380.
No. The FlyByWire A380X cannot be installed or run in Microsoft Flight Simulator on Xbox Series X|S or PlayStation 5. It is a PC-only add-on installed through the FlyByWire Installer into the simulator’s Community folder; consoles cannot run that installer, access the folder or sideload the aircraft.
Why is the FlyByWire A380X PC-only?
The restriction comes from how the aircraft is distributed, not from controller support or the console’s graphics power.
The A380X is supplied as an external Microsoft Flight Simulator package. On Windows, the FlyByWire Installer places and updates it in the Community folder. Xbox and PS5 keep their simulator files in protected storage, so users cannot add Community-folder packages manually.
Console aircraft must be packaged, approved and published for the relevant platform through the in-sim Marketplace. The public A380X package has not been released that way. PC pilots should use the supported A380X installation method for Windows instead of copying files intended for another simulator version.
Which MSFS versions and platforms support the A380X?
The FlyByWire A380X is available through its supported PC installation route, but not in either Microsoft Flight Simulator console ecosystem.
| Platform | Simulator version | A380X status |
|---|---|---|
| Windows PC | MSFS 2020 or MSFS 2024 | Supported through the appropriate PC package |
| Xbox Series X|S | MSFS 2020 or MSFS 2024 | Not available |
| PS5 or PS5 Pro | MSFS 2024 | Not available |
| PS5 or PS5 Pro | MSFS 2020 | Not applicable; MSFS 2020 was never released on PlayStation |
Our explanation of Xbox Community-folder and Marketplace restrictions covers why PC freeware cannot be transferred to an Xbox. PS5 owners face the same basic limitation and must obtain compatible add-ons through the MSFS 2024 Marketplace on PlayStation.
Can you install the A380X on Xbox or PS5 using USB?
No USB, browser or storage-device method can convert the PC A380X into a console add-on.
- Copying the package to external storage does not work because the console simulator cannot import files into its protected add-on directories.
- Downloading the FlyByWire Installer through a console browser does not help; Xbox and PS5 cannot execute the Windows application.
- Using a keyboard and mouse changes the control method only. It does not unlock PC file access or mod support.
- Xbox Cloud Gaming does not expose a Community folder, so it cannot load the A380X package either.
- Streaming your own Windows PC may display and control the PC simulator remotely, but the A380X is still running on that PC rather than on the console.
Could the A380X come to Xbox or PS5 later?
Only an official console-compatible Marketplace release could make the FlyByWire A380X usable on Xbox or PS5.
A Microsoft Flight Simulator update, a PC compatibility patch or a Marketplace livery would not be enough. FlyByWire would need to publish a complete aircraft package approved for each console platform. We would not treat an unconfirmed listing or similarly named product as the FlyByWire A380X.
How do console users choose an A380 instead?
Console users must choose a complete aircraft whose Marketplace product page explicitly lists their platform and simulator version.
Check that the item is an aircraft rather than a livery, sound pack or enhancement requiring another model. A380 paint schemes do not supply the underlying aeroplane. Xbox pilots can use our guide to checking whether an add-on aircraft supports Xbox; the same product-type and platform checks apply on PS5.
If no full A380 aircraft is listed as compatible with your console, there is no supported way to add the PC-only FlyByWire model.
