Use FlyByWire A380X brake-to-vacate in MSFS: select an exit, arm BTV, manage touchdown, and fix unavailable or non-arming BTV.
In Microsoft Flight Simulator, use A380X brake-to-vacate only when the airport map lets you select a runway exit and the flight displays confirm BTV armed. Select the landing runway and exit, set AUTO BRK to BTV, then land normally. BTV controls wheel braking towards that exit; it does not steer the aircraft.
Check feature support first. BTV availability depends on the installed FlyByWire A380X build, not simply on using MSFS 2020 or MSFS 2024. The cockpit selector may be modelled even when full runway-exit logic is unavailable. A moving selector without a selectable exit and armed indication is not working BTV.
How do I set up A380X BTV before landing?
Set up BTV on the airport map before final approach, then arm the corresponding autobrake mode.
- Load the correct landing runway. Confirm that the destination and landing runway in the active flight plan match the runway you will actually use.
- Open the OANS or airport map. Display the Onboard Airport Navigation System on the relevant navigation display and use the available KCCU or cursor controls. Soft-key positions may differ between A380X builds.
- Select the runway exit. Choose the taxiway intersection where you want to leave the runway. Selecting only the runway is not enough; BTV needs a defined exit target.
- Check that the exit is feasible. Confirm that the map shows the selected exit and a valid stopping or deceleration cue. If the system rejects the exit, choose a later one or use conventional autobrake. An early exit may require more deceleration than the aircraft can safely provide.
- Arm BTV. Move the AUTO BRK selector to
BTVand look for confirmation on the flight displays or ECAM. Do not rely on the selector position alone. - Complete the normal landing configuration. Arm the ground spoilers, confirm anti-skid is available and use the aircraft's landing-performance calculation. What does BTV do after touchdown?
After touchdown, BTV modulates the wheel brakes so the A380X reaches a low speed near the selected runway exit. Ground-spoiler deployment and valid ground detection are still required for normal autobrake operation.
Use reverse thrust according to your normal landing technique; BTV does not command the reversers. Avoid pressing the toe brakes unless you intend to take over, because manual brake input can disconnect or override the automatic braking mode.
Monitor the remaining distance and aircraft speed throughout the roll. BTV cannot steer onto the taxiway, so use the tiller or rudder controls yourself and assume manual braking as you begin the turn. The selected exit is a planning target, not a guarantee.
Why is A380X BTV unavailable or not arming?
BTV usually remains unavailable because the installed build lacks complete exit-selection support, the runway data do not match or the requested exit is not feasible.
- No selectable exit: If OANS provides no exit-selection command or marker, full BTV is not available in that aircraft build or for that airport. Use a conventional autobrake mode.
- Runway mismatch: Check that the FMS runway and airport-map runway agree. Changing the approach without updating both can invalidate the BTV target.
- Scenery-data mismatch: Add-on scenery geometry may differ from the airport-map data. Cross-check the displayed taxiway against the runway you see outside before trusting the selected exit.
- Exit too close: Landing mass, approach speed, runway state, wind and the distance from the threshold can make an early exit unsuitable. Choose a later exit rather than forcing the calculation.
- No armed indication: Recheck the AUTO BRK selector, spoilers and landing configuration. If the selector says BTV but no display confirms it, treat the system as unarmed.
- Unexpected disconnect: A noisy or partially applied brake axis can register as manual braking. Release the pedals fully and add a small dead zone if the brake input flickers.
- Wider aircraft problem: If displays, selectors or several systems are unresponsive, follow our A380X package and add-on conflict checks rather than troubleshooting BTV alone.
Which autobrake should I use if BTV is unavailable?
Use a conventional A380X autobrake setting selected from the landing-performance calculation when BTV cannot be positively armed.
- Valid exit and confirmed BTV: Use BTV while remaining ready to brake manually.
- No map, exit or armed indication: Choose an available conventional autobrake setting appropriate to the runway and planned stopping distance.
- Short runway or poor braking: Use the performance-approved braking plan and prioritise stopping margin over reaching a preferred taxiway.
Never continue towards an exit merely because it was selected before landing. If deceleration is weaker than expected, apply manual braking and take the next safe exit.
