The minimum operating-system release can change when the mobile app is updated, so the requirement displayed for the version offered to your device is more reliable than an old fixed number. How do I check whether my device can run X-Plane Mobile?
The most dependable test is to view the official app listing from the exact phone or tablet on which you intend to fly.
- Check device compatibility: if the listing marks that model as incompatible or does not offer installation, it does not meet the supported configuration.
- Check the operating system: compare the installed iOS, iPadOS or Android release with the minimum shown in the listing. Install a supported system update if one is available for your device.
- Inspect free storage: allow substantially more room than the displayed download size because installation, updates and downloaded content need working space.
- Judge practical performance: successful installation confirms basic compatibility, not that high graphics settings will run smoothly.
Bypassing an incompatibility warning does not add missing graphics support or memory. This commonly produces startup crashes, black screens or unusable frame rates.
How much storage does X-Plane Mobile need?
There is no permanent single storage figure because the app package, updates and downloaded content change over time. The listed download size also excludes some temporary space needed while files are unpacked and installed.
Keep a comfortable amount of storage free after installation rather than filling the device to its limit. Low storage can stop scenery or aircraft content from downloading, prevent updates and leave the simulator hanging during loading.

Will every compatible phone or tablet run it smoothly?
No. A compatible device meets the installation threshold, but frame rate and stability depend on its processor, graphics hardware, available memory, resolution and thermal limits.
- Chip generation: a newer phone can outperform an older tablet even though the tablet has a larger screen.
- Memory pressure: background apps leave less memory available for aircraft, scenery and textures.
- Heat: prolonged flying can make a device reduce processor and GPU speed, causing frame-rate deterioration.
- Graphics workload: higher detail, demanding weather and complex aircraft can expose limitations that are not obvious in a simple introductory flight.
- Android variants: similarly named devices may contain different processors or GPUs, so compatibility on one variant does not guarantee identical results on another.
Start with moderate graphics settings, close unnecessary background apps and increase detail gradually. Stable performance during a longer flight is a better test than a few minutes on the runway.
Why does X-Plane Mobile fail even though my device is compatible?
A compatible device can still fail because of insufficient free storage, corrupted downloaded content, memory pressure, overheating or an interrupted installation.
Restart the device, confirm that storage remains available, install supported app and operating-system updates, and retry on a stable connection.
