Instrument coverage across both runways

The Eastern Iowa’s six approach procedures serve all four ends of runways 09/27 and 13/31. The mix of ILS, RNAV (GPS) and localiser options gives each runway alignment instrument coverage rather than concentrating procedures on a single preferred end. The 8,600 ft primary length also provides 2,400 ft more runway than the second alignment.

Nearby chart coverage

Iowa City Municipal has the broadest nearby procedure set, with five charts, but still only half the coverage published for CID. Vinton Veterans Memorial Airpark follows with four, while Marion, Belle Plaine Municipal and Mathews Memorial have thinner sets of two or three charts. The Chicago Sectional adds the wider VFR planning context not provided by the airport diagram and terminal instrument procedures.
