Approach coverage

Great Bend’s three approach plates serve two runway ends, combining GPS procedures with ILS and localiser capability. The result is instrument coverage on only part of the four-end runway configuration rather than on every possible alignment. Runway 17/35 is 3,146 ft longer than 11/29, so it provides the field’s principal length advantage for aircraft requiring more than 4,706 ft.

Chart context

Among nearby fields, Hays Regional has a substantially broader chart set. Lyons-Rice County Municipal and Russell Municipal are closest to Great Bend in overall coverage, while Larned-Pawnee County and Ellsworth Municipal have thinner sets. The Wichita Sectional adds wider-area VFR context beyond the airport diagram and terminal procedures.
