Coverage concentrated on two runway ends

Southern Illinois combines ILS and localiser capability with two RNAV (GPS) procedures, but only two of the field’s six runway ends are served. Instrument provision is therefore concentrated rather than spread across all three runways. The runway lengths also divide their practical roles sharply: an aircraft needing more than 4,163 ft is confined, by the published dimensions, to 18L/36R at 6,506 ft.

Regional chart context

Veterans Airport of Southern Illinois, 12 nm east, has chart coverage of comparable breadth. Pinckneyville/Du Quoin, Benton Municipal, Perryville Regional and Sparta Community-Hunter Field all have markedly thinner procedure sets. The St Louis Sectional adds the wider visual-navigation context absent from the terminal procedures, placing Southern Illinois and the surrounding fields within one regional VFR chart.
