Approach and runway coverage

Every one of Pittsburgh International’s eight runway ends is served by an approach. The mix of ILS, RNAV (GPS) and localiser procedures provides more than one form of instrument guidance across the four-runway layout, with CAT II/III minima published for two ILS approaches. The three longest runways each exceed 10,500 ft, while runway 14/32 still provides 8,101 ft; substantial runway length is therefore available on every published alignment.

Local chart context

Allegheny County has the broadest procedure set among the nearby airports, though its ten charts remain much thinner than Pittsburgh International’s coverage. Beaver County follows with seven, while the other listed fields have only two to five. For VFR context, the Detroit Sectional covers the wider area and the Pittsburgh Terminal Area Chart adds closer terminal-area detail beyond the instrument procedures.

Common questions about KPIT

What charts are available for KPIT?

31 current FAA charts for Pittsburgh Intl, including 23 instrument approachs, 1 departure procedure, 4 arrival procedures, 1 airport diagram. All are free to download as PDFs from this page, from the 6 August 2026 cycle.

What are the radio frequencies for KPIT?

Tower 128.3; Ground 121.9, 127.8; ATIS 127.25, 135.9; UNICOM 122.95; Clearance delivery 126.75. Full civil VHF list, with sector notes, is in the frequencies table on this page — from the FAA NASR subscription.

How long is the runway at KPIT?

Pittsburgh Intl has 4 runways. The longest is 10R/28L at 11,500 ft by 200 ft, concrete. Full runway dimensions, lighting and approach aids are listed on this page.

Does KPIT have an ILS approach?

Yes — 9 ILS procedures are published, including CAT II/III minima. In total KPIT has 23 published instrument approaches, of which 14 are RNAV (GPS).

Where can I download the KPIT airport diagram?

The official FAA airport diagram for Pittsburgh Intl is free to download at the top of this page. It shows runways, taxiways, ramp layout and hold-short positions, and is reissued every 28 days.

Does KPIT have CAT II or CAT III approaches?

Yes. 2 of the published ILS procedures carry CAT II/III minima, which allow approaches in lower visibility than a standard CAT I ILS. Those plates are listed separately in the approach table above, marked CAT II or CAT III in the chart name.

Is KPIT a towered airport?

Yes. Pittsburgh Intl has an operating control tower, within Cleveland Center's airspace. Tower, ground and clearance frequencies are listed on this page.

How many runways does KPIT have?

4, which is why the chart set is as large as it is — each runway end that supports an instrument approach needs its own plates. The runway diagram on this page shows the layout to scale.

Are these KPIT charts current?

They are from the FAA cycle effective 6 August 2026, which is superseded on 3 September 2026. We publish each new cycle on its effective date. They are for flight simulation and reference only — not for real-world navigation.
