Instrument coverage and runway use

Only two of Hudson Valley Regional’s six runway ends have published approaches, despite a five-chart IAP set. Instrument access is therefore concentrated on a minority of the available alignments. The mix of ILS, localiser, RNAV (GPS) and VOR procedures provides both precision and non-precision options rather than relying on one approach type. Of the three runways, only 06/24 provides more than 2,743 ft; any use requiring a longer strip is consequently confined to that alignment.

Coverage around Poughkeepsie

New York Stewart International has the broadest nearby procedure set, while Orange County is closest to Hudson Valley Regional in overall chart coverage. Sky Acres, Kingston-Ulster and Joseph Y Resnick each have much thinner sets. The New York Sectional adds the wider visual-navigation context not provided by the terminal procedure charts.
