Approach and runway coverage

Rapid City Regional has published approaches to all four runway ends, giving both runways instrument coverage in either direction. The seven approach charts combine ILS, localiser, RNAV (GPS) and VOR procedures, so the set includes both precision and non-precision guidance rather than relying on a single system. The 8,701 ft runway offers more than twice the length of the 3,601 ft runway, making runway-length constraints markedly different between the two alignments.

Nearby procedure coverage

Ellsworth AFB has a similarly broad chart set, with slightly more published charts than Rapid City Regional. Coverage becomes progressively thinner at Black Hills-Clyde Ice Field, Hot Springs Municipal and Sturgis Municipal, while Belle Fourche Municipal has the smallest set listed nearby. The Cheyenne Sectional adds the wider visual-navigation context that the airport diagram and instrument procedures do not provide.
