Tri-Cities has instrument procedures serving all four runway ends, rather than concentrating coverage on a single alignment. The mix of four ILS, four RNAV (GPS) and two localiser approaches provides both precision and satellite-based options; one ILS also carries CAT II/III minima. Runway 05/23, at 8,000 ft, is nearly twice the length of 09/27, so the two alignments offer markedly different available distances.
The nearby airports have much thinner procedure sets. Virginia Highlands has the broadest neighbouring coverage with five charts, while each of the other listed fields has three, compared with Tri-Cities’ 15. The Atlanta and Cincinnati sectional charts add the wider visual-navigation context that the airport diagram and terminal procedures do not show.
