Instrument coverage is concentrated on one runway end

Lanai’s four instrument procedures all serve the same end of runway 03/21, leaving the reciprocal end without a published approach. The mix is unusually varied for one runway end: ILS/localiser, RNAV (GPS) and two VOR procedures provide several forms of guidance rather than repeated variants of one approach type. With a single 5,001 ft runway, there is no alternative runway alignment.

Regional chart context

Kahului has the broadest nearby procedure set, while Molokai also has substantially more coverage than Lanai. Kalaupapa and Hana have thinner sets of comparable scale. The Hawaiian Islands Sectional adds the broader visual-navigation context that the airport-specific instrument procedures do not provide.

Common questions about PHNY

What charts are available for PHNY?

6 current FAA charts for Lanai, including 4 instrument approachs. All are free to download as PDFs from this page, from the 6 August 2026 cycle.

What are the radio frequencies for PHNY?

CTAF 122.9. Full civil VHF list, with sector notes, is in the frequencies table on this page — from the FAA NASR subscription.

How long is the runway at PHNY?

Lanai has 1 runway. The longest is 03/21 at 5,001 ft by 150 ft, asphalt. Full runway dimensions, lighting and approach aids are listed on this page.

Does PHNY have an ILS approach?

Yes — 1 ILS procedure is published. In total PHNY has 4 published instrument approaches, of which 1 are RNAV (GPS).

Which runway do instrument approaches serve at PHNY?

Every published approach serves one runway end. There is no instrument procedure to the reciprocal direction, so an arrival in instrument conditions commits to that single approach direction regardless of the wind.

Is PHNY a towered airport?

No — Lanai has no control tower. Traffic co-ordinates on a common frequency rather than with a controller, which is listed in the frequencies table on this page.

Are these PHNY charts current?

They are from the FAA cycle effective 6 August 2026, which is superseded on 3 September 2026. We publish each new cycle on its effective date. They are for flight simulation and reference only — not for real-world navigation.
