Southern Alaska and coastal British Columbia

From the open North Pacific west of the Alexander Archipelago to the deep inlets of coastal British Columbia, this sheet spans one of North America’s most intricate maritime regions. It centres on Ketchikan and the southern Alaska Panhandle, extending across Prince of Wales Island, Dixon Entrance, Haida Gwaii and a broad section of the British Columbia coast. The Juneau sectional continues the coverage northwards.

Islands, channels and mountain coast

The landscape is defined by long fjords, narrow channels, forested islands and steep coastal mountains. Sheltered waterways contrast sharply with exposed ocean reaches, while the Coast Mountains form a rugged eastern margin cut by river valleys and inlets. With substantial areas of both land and sea on one sheet, the chart suits routes linking scattered coastal communities, crossing between island groups, or following the broken shoreline between south-east Alaska and western Canada.

Common questions

What area does the Ketchikan Sectional Chart cover?

It spans 51.5°N to 56.3°N and 140.5°W to 129.2°W. Airports on the sheet fall within Alaska. The full list of public-use airports within its coverage is on this page.

Should I download the GeoTIFF or the PDF?

Take the GeoTIFF if you are loading the chart into moving-map software or a flight planner — it is georeferenced, so the software can place it correctly on a map, and it ships with a world file and FGDC metadata at 300 dpi (32.6 MB). Take the PDF to print it or read it on a second screen (66.7 MB); it is the same chart without georeferencing.

Is this the current Ketchikan chart?

This is the FAA edition effective 9 July 2026, which is superseded on 3 September 2026. Visual charts are reissued every 56 days and we publish each new edition on the day it takes effect. It is for flight simulation and reference only — not for real-world navigation.

Which charts adjoin the Ketchikan sheet?

Juneau to the north. Each is linked from this page, so a route running off one edge can be continued on the next sheet.

Is the Ketchikan Sectional Chart free to download?

Yes, with no account required. FAA charts are United States Government works and are not subject to copyright protection in the US under 17 U.S.C. § 105. Guest downloads are speed-capped, so a sheet this size takes a while; PRO members download at full line speed and can take the whole family as one archive.
