Flight Simulator X Prepar3D

Immerse yourself in an enriched rendition of Fairbanks International Airport, meticulously designed for enthusiasts who prefer the default Microsoft Flight Simulator X environment. Situated in Alaska’s interior, this airfield often experiences varied weather patterns and heavy cargo operations, making it a strategic node for domestic and international flights. Developer Ray Smith has carefully enhanced numerous elements, ensuring more accurate parking assignments, expanded vehicle pathways, and extra taxiway details that improve overall functionality without straying from the core default layout.

Refined Ground Layout and Additional Features

This freeware package utilizes ADE (Airport Design Editor) to modify the default scenery. It introduces cargo stand allocations, revamped support vehicle routes, and the previously absent taxiways S and T. Alongside these enhancements, you will find new taxi signage tailored to enhance situational awareness, plus additional fuel trucks to ensure efficient turnaround times for both passenger and cargo operations. The minimal approach to visual modifications targets operational immersion, and it has been verified to function seamlessly with AI traffic solutions like Ultimate Traffic and World of AI (WOAI), though these are not prerequisites.

Parking and Operational Efficiency

Assigned parking positions, including dedicated cargo ramps, are now integrated to accommodate various aircraft categories. By improving traffic flow, these enhanced spots minimize potential congestion. Meanwhile, realigned support vehicle pathways streamline ground services such as equipment dispatch and refueling.

Observing from the Control Tower

An additional highlight is the expanded vantage point for those flying in Tower view. You can now explore 360-degree panoramic perspectives from the control tower’s rooftop. To enable unrestricted camera movement, developers suggest assigning a dedicated control in your simulator settings for the “View track/pan Toggle.” With this simple key or button assignment, you can sweep your gaze around the airport, then return to standard aircraft tracking mode at will.

Installation Steps

  1. Move the provided .BGL file into your Flight Simulator X/Addon Scenery/Scenery folder.
  2. Launch your simulator, and the updated airport layout will become active immediately.

Note: Ensure only one PAFA.BGL file resides in your Addon Scenery/Scenery folder at any given time. Remove or rename any duplicates to prevent conflicts.

Uninstallation Guidelines

  1. Delete the added .BGL file from your scenery folder.
  2. Your simulator will revert to its default airport configuration once the modified file is removed.

Developer and Tool Acknowledgments

Ray Smith designed this add-on, and special credit goes to Jon Masterson for his ADE Utility. By combining these tools and talents, the project delivers a more immersive experience at this significant Alaskan hub. Whether you focus on passenger routes or cargo-based logistics, this refined airport layout offers an authentic take on Fairbanks International Airport. Fly safe and enjoy the updated environment!

How to install this mod

FSX / P3D scenery
  1. Extract the downloaded archive

Use 7-Zip (free) or WinRAR to extract the ZIP to a temporary folder. Don't install while still zipped — the simulator can't read inside ZIP files.
  2. Place scenery in Addon Scenery

Create a folder under FSX\Addon Scenery\ containing scenery and texture sub-folders.
  3. Activate in Scenery Library

In FSX, go to Settings → Scenery Library → Add Area. Higher priority means it overrides lower entries for the same location.
  4. Always read the included readme

Every mod ships with a readme.txt or README file. It tells you exactly where files go, what dependencies are needed, and any quirks specific to this add-on.
