About the Town of Katima Mulilo:
Katima Mulilo (Name derived from SiLozi, meaning 'quenches the fire', in reference to nearby rapids) is a town that serves as the administrative center and capital of the Caprivi Strip Region of Namibia. Located on the Zambezi River, it was established by the British colonial authorities in 1935 to replace the former German town of Schuckmannsburg, which was the regional capital when Caprivi was part of German South-West Africa. This function was transferred to Katima Mulilo in 1937. The town has a population of 22,700 (2001).
The Katima Mulilo Bridge spans the Zambezi River here, taking the TransCaprivi Highway to Sesheke in Zambia. The TransCaprivi Highway links Caprivi with the rest of Namibia. The nearest town from Katima mulilo is Rundu, which is about 500KM away.
In October 2007, a proposal was announced for a railway connection between Namibia and Zambia passing through Katima Mulilo. The line would join Grootfontein to Katima Mulilo then 130km to Mulobezi with an 80km upgrade of the line to Livingstone.
About Katima Mulilo Airport:
The Katima Mulilo airport is the gateway for the tropical Caprivi region and the town is home to the African BIG 5 [ the lion, the African elephant, the Buffalo, the leopard and the rhinoceros,] that attracts a lot of tourists. This airport is situated within two hours drive from the famous Victoria Falls and not more than four hours drive from the Kavango Delta in Botswana. It has reliable fuel services giving rise to many refueling stops for air traffic from South Africa en route to Central Africa.Katima Mulilo Airport has an air traffic control service, fuel and basic fire fighting facilities. Customs and Immigration.
Air Nambia has regular flights to Katima Mulilo airport from Windhoek's Domestic Airport [ Eros ] worth Noting !
Katima Mululio Airport was once occupied by the SA Military hence the markings going to nowhere - when they left they took the buildings with them?
The FSX one was not convincing enough! I have tried to make it close to realistic as possible using Airport Scenery Creator v1.37 and the objects that are available for use from FSX SP2 - Acceleration. Hope this will make your stop-over more enjoyable!
