FSX Native Swingman J2F Duck Panel And FDE

Swingman’s Grumman J2F-X Duck gains a refreshed 2D panel and virtual cockpit, checklist, and more believable flight dynamics for Microsoft Flight Simulator X, improving speed, roll response, and engine behavior. Choose between a standard instrument layout or Sperry compass and pitch autopilot, with pop-up GPS, radios, fuel gauges, and pedestal.

A new 2D panel, VC, checklist, and FDE created for SWingman's now FSX native, Grumman J2F-X Ducks (links in readme). There are two panel configurations. One has the normal compass and artificial horizon indicators, the other has Sperry compass heading autopilot and Sperry AHI pitch autopilot. Both have popup windows for the GPS, fuel gauges, pedestal, and radios. The new flight dynamics make speed, roll, and engine functions more realistic. By Don Bodenstedt.

Back Up your original aircraft.cfg files.

Copy the contents of the respective "J2F-X Files" folders to the originals, allowing overwrite. Copy the FSX Gauges "DuckJ2F-X.CAB" to, you guessed it, FSX/Gauges. Place the original "DuckJ2F" gauges folder in FSX/Gauges also. You can otherwise place the DuckJ2F-X.CAB and "DuckJ2F" gauges folder in the separate panel folders instead.

The aircraft.cfg "panel=" points to the Sperry Autopilot(panel.SPAPx) panel by default. In the aircraft.cfg, change the panel= line to panel=DCBx for the no AP version.

I included my 1942 J2F-4 VMO-251 paint and a plain unmarked grey livery(for the tweakers). Both of those are already enabled in the J2F-4's aircraft.cfg

If you have Add-On liveries installed, you can copy paste their [fltsim.X] sections(from your Back Up) into the new aircraft.cfg, remembering to number them according. Also change their panel= line to your panel preference.

How to install this mod

FSX / P3D panel / gauge

  1. Extract the downloaded archive

    Use 7-Zip (free) or WinRAR to extract the ZIP to a temporary folder. Don't install while still zipped — the simulator can't read inside ZIP files.

  2. Place panel files

    Panel files go inside FSX\SimObjects\Airplanes\{aircraft}\panel\. Back up the existing panel folder first.

  3. Always read the included readme

    Every mod ships with a readme.txt or README file. It tells you exactly where files go, what dependencies are needed, and any quirks specific to this add-on.

    The Duck was a really great aircraft! It was actually capable of being catapult launched from the hangar deck of one or two pre-war carriers-through a opening near the bow. A very stable and useful aircraft. This FSX addon is a lot of fun to fly.
