Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004

This repaint package brings the Curtiss C-46A Commando into Braniff’s distinctive colors for use in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004. It is a texture set only and requires the freeware base model created by Libardo Guzman, Tom Gibson, and the California Classic team. The repaint itself has been meticulously crafted by Manuele Villa. Incorporating this livery allows vintage propliner enthusiasts to explore the cargo-hauling and passenger-carrying services that Braniff once offered, all within the classic environment of FS2004.

Curtiss C-46A Commando Background

The Curtiss C-46A Commando was originally built to serve military transport roles, particularly during World War II. Its robust design, abundant cargo capacity, and high-altitude capabilities made it a preferred airliner for postwar commercial operations. Braniff, a major carrier in the mid-20th century, utilized various aircraft types to expand its route network and deliver reliable service to travelers. This repaint captures those historical elements in fine detail, so pilots can replicate authentic routes and procedures using the CalClassic model.

  • Extract the texture.BRANIFF folder from this download into the GA_C-46 directory located in your “Flight Simulator 9/AIRCRAFT/” folder.

Additional Notes

This package delivers only the visual aspects of Braniff’s livery for the C-46A. The main freeware model, found in the Fly Away Simulation library, must be downloaded and installed beforehand. Once fully assembled, pilots can enjoy the classic flight deck and cargo-hauling charm that defined the Curtiss C-46A’s service history. This repaint offers an opportunity to simulate mid-century commercial operations under Braniff’s banner while enjoying the iconic lines and unique handling characteristics of one of aviation’s most storied prop transports.
