FSX Malaysia Airbus A330-200

Malaysia Airlines’ Airbus A330-200 livery brings a crisp, true-to-life exterior with accurate fuselage striping and tail emblem, tuned for clean texture mapping and smooth performance in Microsoft Flight Simulator X. The repaint integrates with Thomas Ruth’s A330-200 PW model and requires the freeware base package for full aircraft visuals and flight dynamics.

Flight Simulator X Prepar3D

Experience a meticulously rendered livery for the Airbus A330-200 that faithfully captures Malaysia Airlines' color scheme. Designed by Jon Murchison, this texture package offers Microsoft Flight Simulator X users the opportunity to immerse themselves in a distinctive painting of Malaysia’s long-haul fleet. Be aware that only the repaint is supplied, so the freeware base model by Thomas Ruth must be acquired separately from the Fly Away Simulation library.

Key Add-On Features and Technical Background

  • High-Fidelity Repaint: Crafted to blend seamlessly with the Thomas Ruth A330-200 platform, preserving accurate graphics and details.
  • Malaysia Airlines Architecture: Embodies real-world designs, including the carrier’s prominent fuselage stripes and tail emblem.
  • Optimized for Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Utilizes texture mapping that prevents loss of resolution and maintains smooth performance.

Aircraft Insights: Airbus A330-200 in Malaysia Airlines Service

The Airbus A330-200 is a twin-engine, wide-body airliner well-known for its efficient mid-to-long-range routes. Malaysia Airlines employs this model for regional and international flights, leveraging its high capacity and economical fuel usage. Enthusiasts often appreciate the balanced aerodynamics and the advanced cockpit technology (or flight deck instrumentation) that offers robust altitude control and flight management systems.

Compatibility Considerations

As this repaint depends on Thomas Ruth’s freeware base package, pilots should confirm the presence of the A330-200 (PW engine variant) in their aircraft folder. If absent, a quick search in Fly Away Simulation’s repository will reveal the necessary TOM330.ZIP file to enable accurate modeling and flight dynamics.

Installation Procedure and Configuration

  1. Extract Textures: Locate the “Texture.MALAYSIA” folder and move it into your FSX or Microsoft Flight Simulator X directory under SimObjects/ Airplanes/ Tom_A330-200.
  2. Modify Aircraft Configuration: Access the aircraft.cfg file in the same folder. Insert the following snippet after the last repaint entry. Update the [fltsim.X] to the next available index number (e.g., [fltsim.9]):
    [fltsim.X]
    title=Malaysia A330-200
    sim=TomA332
    model=PW
    panel=
    sound=
    texture=MALAYSIA

    ui_manufacturer=Airbus
    ui_type="A330-200"
    ui_variation="Malaysia"

  3. Save and Launch: Conclude by saving changes, then run FSX. Your newly integrated Malaysia Airlines texture will be available in the aircraft selection menu.

Requires dependencies

This add-on may require the following files to function properly. If this is a repaint, the dependency below is likely the base aircraft package.

How to install this mod

FSX / P3D aircraft
  1. Extract the downloaded archive

    Use 7-Zip (free) or WinRAR to extract the ZIP to a temporary folder. Don't install while still zipped — the simulator can't read inside ZIP files.
  2. Copy aircraft files into SimObjects

    Place the aircraft folder inside FSX\SimObjects\Airplanes\. The folder must contain an aircraft.cfg file. Effects go into FSX\Effects\; gauges go into FSX\Gauges\.
  3. Verify in FSX

    Launch FSX, go to Free Flight → Select Aircraft and find your new aircraft under its manufacturer.
  4. Always read the included readme

    Every mod ships with a readme.txt or README file. It tells you exactly where files go, what dependencies are needed, and any quirks specific to this add-on.
