This repaint for Microsoft Flight Simulator X presents a fictional Mexicana de Aviacion Boeing 737-800 “Retro” theme. Although Mexicana historically operated aircraft such as the 727, 757, and 767, it never included a 737 in its fleet. Developer Sigfrido Munguia created this livery to imagine how the airline’s timeless branding might look if it continued using Boeing jets.
Classic Inspiration and Airline Background
Mexicana de Aviacion was once recognized as one of the oldest carriers in the Americas. Known for routes across Mexico, North America, and other international destinations, the airline focused on Boeing types like the 727 in its earlier years and later expanded to larger Boeing widebodies. This fictional adaptation applies a retro design to a Boeing 737-800, paying homage to Mexicana’s historical livery elements.
Texture Contents and Technical Notes
This release includes only the texture folder for the 737-800. Because it references the default Boeing 737-800 model in Microsoft Flight Simulator X, you must already have that base model installed, or acquire it. The texture folder, named texture.retro
, incorporates design details intended to reflect historical branding. You can expect period-inspired titles, tail insignia, and carefully riveted fuselage lines to give a classic air appearance.
Once you download and unzip, move the texture.retro
directory into your Boeing B737_800
folder, typically found under:
Program Files/Microsoft Games/Flight Simulator X/Simobjects/Airplanes/Boeing B737_800
Configuring the Aircraft.cfg
You will need to update your aircraft.cfg
file by adding a new [fltsim] entry. Find the last existing [fltsim.X] section, then increase the index by one. If the last entry is [fltsim.5], for instance, rename the following section to [fltsim.6]
. Insert the code shown below, making sure XX
matches your chosen sequence number:

description=Texture by Sigfrido Munguía
"One should hardly be surprised that the world's most prolific manufacturer of commercial aircraft is also the producer of the world's most popular jetliner. The 737 became the best-selling commercial jetliner worldwide when orders for it hit 1,831 in June 1987 (surpassing Boeing's own 727 as the previous champ). However, it wasn't always that way…in the first few years of production, there were so few orders that Boeing considered canceling the program. They didn't, and the airplane has more than proven itself in over three decades of service."
Save the file once you have inserted the text, and your new repaint will be selectable within the simulator. This fictional design merges the heritage of Mexicana with the modern profile of a 737-800, making it a unique addition to your hangar.
Credit and Final Installer Note
This livery was developed by Sigfrido Munguia and is offered as freeware. Keep in mind that this download contains textures only; you will still need the base 737-800 model, often available within the Fly Away Simulation library. After placing the files correctly and updating your configuration, you will be ready to experiment with Mexicana’s signature look on a 737-800, even if it never flew that type in reality.
