    Lago Releases MiG 21-bis

Posted on Monday, August 09 @ 23:26:01 BST by darklord

Other flight sim related news Now available from publisher Lago and developers Soko Z.I. is MiG 21-bis. Developed in collaboration with the Croatian Air Force, this new add-on accurately portrays the historic Russian designed jet fighter. For details, click on Read More.

After MiG-21 release, is time for some comments from the people who collaborated to the development of this FS add-on.

Lago MiG-21 is the latest Lago product, developed by Soko, a Croatian development team, at its first work on Flight Simulator add-ons. This is the first product, that kicks off the collaboration between Lago and Soko. Lago wants to keep high standards for its products, and the choice to publish this product was made following this rule. MiG-21 was developed by a team of engineers working on real plane, and it derives from a professional simulator built for Croatian air force, so what must be stressed about this plane is realism of flight dynamics. Some real MiG-21 pilots followed the development of this add-on, putting all their experience and knowledge at developers disposal. Here are some quotes from these pilots:

"When we talk about the FS2004 add-on for MiG-21 bis, we must stress out that this add-on was our idea. As we, the pilots of Croatian air forces, have been involved in the development and testing of the professional MiG-21 bis simulator as the end users, we spent a lot of time with Soko Z.I. engineers. In one of these occasions we asked them whether it was possible to make a commercial version of the MiG-21 bis for PCs."

"They (Soko) already had the MiG-21 aerodynamics and mechanical data in their computers, as well as the knowledge about how the cockpit and instruments look like and behave in different situations."

"After they finished the add-on and we started testing it, and we must say that we enjoyed reading the manual, which I recommend. We also recommend everyone to adjust the joystick sensitivities to 95% in order to get the plane to behave very real in the air: at low air speeds critical angles of attack are easily reachable; rate of roll increases with speed of the aircraft; speed and acceleration in the loop are very realistic and change with the altitude and external load; the drag and the angle of attack depend on the extension of landing gear . It is very unfortunate that the radar and weapons are not simulated, but this is not possible in the Flight Simulator. You will definitely enjoy flying the old Soviet supersonic fighter - as much as it is possible without sitting in the real cockpit."
