Why doesn’t the Aerosoft A340 taxi camera work in MSFS?

Adam McEnroe
In short

Fix an Aerosoft A340 taxi camera not working in MSFS by checking camera mode, bindings, compatibility and whether the cockpit feed is modelled.

The Aerosoft A340 taxi camera usually fails because the view is in the wrong Microsoft Flight Simulator camera mode, its bindings are missing or conflicting, or the add-on’s cockpit video feature is unavailable in that aircraft build. First establish whether “taxi camera” means a movable sim view or the A340’s in-cockpit camera feed.

Which A340 taxi camera is not working?

Start by separating a Microsoft Flight Simulator player-camera problem from a black or frozen display inside the A340 cockpit. They are independent systems and require different fixes.

How do I fix a frozen taxi view?

The fastest fix is to restore the correct camera mode and then test the camera commands with a clean control profile.

  1. Return to the cockpit. In MSFS 2024, make sure the avatar is inside the aircraft and walkaround mode has ended. Our explanation of cockpit and external view switching covers the relevant camera states.
  2. Choose the correct type of camera. Cockpit mode pans from the pilot’s position, External mode follows the aircraft, and the Showcase drone moves independently. If the intended taxi view is free-roaming, check the drone-camera mode, movement bindings and speed controls.
  3. Inspect the active control profile. Camera assignments are stored separately for each mouse, keyboard, controller, joystick or yoke profile. Show unassigned controls and search for cockpit look, camera pan, external view and drone movement commands rather than assuming the default bindings remain present.
  4. Remove duplicate inputs. A hat switch, analogue stick, mouse axis or camera utility can continuously override another command. Unplug optional controllers temporarily, then reconnect them one at a time. If only mouse movement is affected, check these mouse-look binding and controller-conflict fixes.
  5. Reset only the affected custom view. An aircraft update can change the virtual cockpit geometry and leave a saved camera preset outside the cabin or facing the wrong direction. Re-create that preset before resetting every control assignment.
  6. Test another aircraft. Use the same airport, input device and camera command in a default aircraft. If it also fails, the fault is in MSFS camera mode or controls rather than the A340.

Why is the A340 cockpit taxi-camera screen black?

A black cockpit camera display is an aircraft-system problem, not a pan, drone or external-view binding problem. Microsoft Flight Simulator does not automatically provide every aircraft with an operating nose-gear or taxi-video system.

  • Establish electrical power: load the A340 in its ready state for a quick comparison, or complete the normal external-power or APU procedure from cold and dark. Check the relevant display brightness as well.
  • Select the implemented video page: follow the controls described in the documentation supplied with that exact A340 build. Do not assume that selecting a simulator camera view will send its image to a cockpit screen.
  • Check feature support: a camera fairing or labelled cockpit control on the visual model does not prove that a live feed is simulated. If the documentation lists the system as inoperative or unimplemented, no MSFS control binding can activate it.
  • Confirm compatibility: use an A340 package intended for the installed simulator generation and platform. A package designed for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 may not work correctly in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 unless its publisher explicitly supports that use.
  • Eliminate duplicate packages: on PC, temporarily remove non-essential camera modifications, old A340 copies and aircraft-specific liveries that alter configuration files. On consoles, disable optional content where the library permits it, then restart the simulator fully.

If the cockpit feed works in a ready-to-fly state but not from cold and dark, the missing step is almost certainly aircraft power or system selection. If it stays black while every normal player-camera view works, concentrate on A340 implementation status, package compatibility and add-on conflicts.

How can I tell whether MSFS or the A340 is at fault?

A short comparison flight identifies the responsible layer without an unnecessary simulator reinstall.

  • If the same camera command fails in every aircraft, repair the global camera mode or controller profile.
  • If it fails only in the A340, reset that aircraft’s custom view and test the add-on without liveries or camera utilities.
  • If the player camera works but only the cockpit video is black, check aircraft power and whether the live feed is actually modelled.
  • If the fault began after changing simulator generations, confirm that the installed A340 build supports that version of MSFS.

Clearing scenery or rolling cache data will not normally repair a camera binding or an unimplemented cockpit feed. For an aircraft-specific fault, record the simulator edition, platform, A340 build, starting state and whether the same command works in a default aircraft; those details distinguish a control problem from an add-on defect.
