Which airports support Aerosoft VDGS in MSFS?

Adam McEnroe
In short

See which MSFS airports support Aerosoft VDGS, why coverage varies by scenery and stand, and how to verify compatibility before parking.

Aerosoft VDGS works only at gates where a compatible airport scenery has been built to use it; installing the utility does not add docking guidance to every Microsoft Flight Simulator airport. Supported examples include specific scenery editions of Brussels, Cologne/Bonn, Berlin Brandenburg, Frankfurt, Oslo Gardermoen and Paris Charles de Gaulle, with coverage varying by stand.

Which airport sceneries include Aerosoft VDGS?

Support belongs to a particular scenery package and version, not to the airport or ICAO code itself. Airport scenery families where Aerosoft VDGS integration has been advertised include:

AirportICAOCoverage condition
Berlin BrandenburgEDDBCompatible Aerosoft scenery edition and equipped stands only
BrusselsEBBRCompatible Aerosoft scenery edition and equipped stands only
Cologne/BonnEDDKCompatible Aerosoft scenery edition and equipped stands only
FrankfurtEDDFThe installed scenery release must explicitly list Aerosoft VDGS
Oslo GardermoenENGMCompatible Aerosoft scenery build; other ENGM packages do not inherit support
Paris Charles de GaulleLFPGSupport depends on the purchased edition, simulator generation and stand

This is not a permanent, exhaustive catalogue. Airports can gain support through scenery updates, while an older or differently branded rendition of the same airport may not have it. For Paris, check which LFPG scenery and simulator edition you are buying rather than relying on the airport name alone.

Does Aerosoft VDGS work at default MSFS airports?

No. Installing Aerosoft VDGS does not retrofit the default Microsoft Flight Simulator airports with working docking displays. The scenery developer must place compatible VDGS units, configure the stands and include the necessary integration.

A modelled Safedock screen is not proof of Aerosoft compatibility. It could be decorative, use the scenery developer's own logic or belong to another system. Our comparison of Aerosoft and GSX docking coverage explains why two VDGS products can behave differently at the same airport.

How do I confirm that an airport and stand are supported?

The safest check is an explicit Aerosoft VDGS reference in the documentation for the exact scenery edition you have installed.

  1. Identify the active airport package. Check its developer and product edition. The default airport or another developer's rendition at the same ICAO is a different product.
  2. Match the simulator generation. Do not assume an MSFS 2020 package has working VDGS integration in MSFS 2024 merely because the scenery itself loads.
  3. Look for the exact system name. The feature list should say Aerosoft VDGS, not merely VDGS, A-VDGS, Safedock or docking guidance.
  4. Check stand coverage. Many compatible airports equip terminal gates but not remote stands, cargo positions, maintenance areas or every pier.
  5. Verify the supporting module. Complete the Aerosoft VDGS installation and activation procedure before treating a blank display as an airport fault.

Why is VDGS blank at a supported airport?

A supported airport can still show a blank or inactive display when the wrong scenery layer, stand or software build is in use. The common causes are:

  • An unsupported stand: move to a gate specifically documented or visibly fitted with an active unit.
  • Duplicate airport scenery: two packages covering the same ICAO can cause one package's terminal or VDGS objects to mask the other. Leave only the intended airport package active while testing.
  • A simulator-version mismatch: the airport may render in MSFS 2024 while its VDGS component still requires a compatible update.
  • The VDGS module is not active: confirm that it installed correctly and that any required supporting process is running.
  • The aircraft is outside the capture area: approach slowly on the painted centreline. Some units remain idle until the aircraft enters their detection range.

For the newer simulator, use our MSFS 2024 VDGS compatibility checks to separate an unsupported scenery build from an installation or stand-selection problem.
