Can Xbox use real AI traffic liveries in MSFS 2024?

Adam McEnroe
In short

Learn when real AI traffic liveries work on Xbox in MSFS 2024, why PC injectors do not, and what to check before buying an add-on.

Yes, but only through content supported inside Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 on Xbox. Xbox cannot run desktop traffic injectors or manually installed Community-folder livery packs. Built-in live traffic supplies real flight movements, while correct airline colours require an Xbox-compatible in-simulator package that explicitly supports AI aircraft.

What AI traffic options work on Xbox?

Xbox supports the simulator’s own live or offline traffic systems and compatible content distributed through its in-sim Marketplace or official content library. It does not expose the Community folder or allow the external programs commonly used to inject flights and match liveries on PC.

Traffic optionWorks on Xbox?Real airline liveries?
Built-in live trafficYesNot guaranteed; unmatched flights may use generic aircraft and colours
Xbox-compatible AI livery packageYes, if explicitly supportedYes, within the airlines and aircraft covered by the package
Downloaded Community-folder liveriesNoNo manual installation is available on Xbox
Desktop traffic injectorNoPC only because it requires an external application

Live flight data and visual aircraft matching are separate systems. A real flight number arriving at the correct airport can still appear as a generic jet because the simulator has no suitable AI model and livery for that operator. Our explanation of how real airline livery matching works in MSFS covers that distinction in more detail.

How do you add real airline liveries on Xbox?

The only practical route is an add-on delivered inside Microsoft Flight Simulator that lists Xbox, MSFS 2024 and AI traffic support.

  1. Check the platform listing. Open the in-sim Marketplace on the Xbox itself. Do not assume that a PC product, or a package made for MSFS 2020, supports Xbox and MSFS 2024.
  2. Look for AI-specific wording. The description must mention AI traffic, traffic aircraft or livery replacement. A normal aircraft livery pack usually affects only the aeroplane flown by the player.
  3. Check what is included. Some products repaint existing traffic models but do not add missing aircraft types. Coverage may also be limited to particular airlines or regions.
  4. Install and enable the package. Use the simulator’s library or content-management area. Restart the simulator if the package does not appear immediately.
  5. Enable live traffic. Online services and live or real-time traffic must be active if you want real-world movements. The add-on supplies visual matching; it does not necessarily create the flights.

Files copied to USB storage, cloud storage or another device cannot be placed into an Xbox Community folder. See our guide to the add-on restrictions on Xbox before downloading any PC-only package.

Why are some aircraft still generic?

Generic aircraft remain whenever the installed content cannot match a live flight to a suitable model and airline paint scheme.

  • The airline is not covered: no matching livery exists in the installed package.
  • The aircraft type is missing: a repaint cannot supply a model that the package does not contain.
  • The product is player-only: ordinary liveries do not automatically become usable by AI traffic.
  • The package is disabled or incompatible: content recognised by MSFS 2020 is not automatically guaranteed to function correctly in MSFS 2024.
  • Live traffic is unavailable: an AI livery package changes appearance but may not generate traffic when online services or the live feed are unavailable.

Static aircraft supplied by airport scenery can also appear beside live traffic, producing duplicate or conflicting liveries. If that happens, reduce static parked-aircraft generation rather than disabling the live traffic source.

Can Xbox use a PC AI traffic injector?

No. PC injectors depend on a separate desktop application communicating with Microsoft Flight Simulator, something Xbox does not permit. They may offer broader airline coverage and more detailed matching on PC, but they cannot be transferred to the console or made to work by purchasing only their aircraft package.

For a clearer comparison, see the difference between MSFS 2024 traffic injectors and built-in live traffic. On Xbox, choose built-in traffic for real movements and add an Xbox-compatible AI livery product only when its listing specifically confirms the aircraft, airlines and simulator version you need.
