Learn what a DCS B-2 Spirit mod can do, how to install it in Saved Games, and how to fix missing aircraft, dependencies and folder errors.
Yes. Unofficial community B-2 Spirit mods have been made for DCS World, but there is no official, full-fidelity B-2 module. Capability varies by release: some packages are flyable, others are AI-only, and some require another aircraft module. Install the package in the Saved Games mod folder specified by its documentation.
Is the DCS B-2 mod official or full-fidelity?
The B-2 Spirit is available only through unofficial community add-ons, not as an official DCS World module. A community B-2 may provide an external model, weapons and basic flight characteristics, but its cockpit, avionics, flight model and low-observable behaviour can be simplified or borrowed from another aircraft.
| Package type | What it provides | How to identify it |
|---|---|---|
| Flyable aircraft | A pilot-controlled B-2, often using simplified or reused systems | The Mission Editor offers Player or Client as a skill |
| AI-only aircraft | A unit for missions, escorts, targets or static displays | Only AI skill levels are available |
| Dependency-based mod | A B-2 that relies on another module or community asset | The release documentation lists a required aircraft or package |
Choose an AI package if you only need the bomber in mission scenarios. Choose a flyable release if pilot control matters, but do not expect the fidelity or support of a paid module. Our guide to unofficial aircraft, dependencies and flyability explains the same distinctions in more detail.
How do I install a B-2 Spirit mod in DCS World?
A B-2 aircraft mod normally belongs under the active DCS World profile in Saved Games, not inside the simulator's core installation.
- Read the included instructions. Confirm whether the package is flyable or AI-only, which DCS builds it supports, and whether it requires another module or asset pack. A download labelled B-2 may be a standalone aircraft or one component of a larger pack.
- Extract the archive. Do not leave the ZIP, RAR or 7z archive in the Mods directory. Extract it to a temporary location so you can inspect its folder structure.
- Find the mod's root folder. For a conventional aircraft mod, this is usually the folder that directly contains
entry.luatogether with folders for the model, textures and other resources. - Open the correct Saved Games profile. The usual destination is
%USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\DCS\Mods\aircraft. An installation retained from an older configuration may instead useDCS.openbetaor a deliberately customised profile name. Use the profile containing the activeConfig,LogsandMissionsfolders. - Copy the complete mod folder. The expected structure is normally
Saved Games\DCS\Mods\aircraft\<mod-folder>\entry.lua. If the author explicitly classifies it as a technology or AI asset and specifiesMods\tech, follow that instruction instead. Our general Saved Games installation method covers archive extraction and folder placement. - Install any stated dependencies. A required official aircraft module must be installed and authorised. Community asset dependencies must also be placed in the folders specified by their own documentation.
- Restart DCS and test in the Mission Editor. Add a new aircraft group, select a country supported by the mod and look for the B-2 in the aircraft list. Set the skill to Player or Client if those options exist; otherwise, the release is AI-only.
A community mod does not have to appear as an owned product in the DCS module manager. The Mission Editor is the more reliable installation check.
Why does the B-2 not appear in DCS?
A missing B-2 is usually caused by an extra folder level, the wrong Saved Games profile, an unmet dependency or an incompatible mod release.
- Double-nested folder: If the path ends with something such as
B-2\B-2\entry.lua, move the inner root folder up one level. Theentry.luafile should sit directly inside the aircraft's folder. - Wrong DCS profile: Check which Saved Games directory receives new log files when DCS starts. Installing into an unused
DCSorDCS.openbetafolder is a common mistake. - Wrong category: Do not place an aircraft package under
Mods\techunless its instructions explicitly require that location. - Country, date or filter restriction: Try the country specified by the package and temporarily disable historical unit filtering in the Mission Editor.
- AI-only release: An aircraft that appears in the list but has no Player or Client skill is not flyable. Reinstalling it will not add a cockpit.
- Broken dependency or outdated scripts: Remove the mod and start DCS again. If the simulator then loads normally, obtain a compatible release rather than modifying core DCS files to force it to work.
For a visual comparison of the correct root-folder layout, see our worked aircraft-folder example and nested-folder fixes. You can also inspect Saved Games\DCS\Logs\dcs.log and search for the mod folder name; nearby errors often identify a missing script or dependency.
Can I use a B-2 mod in multiplayer?
A B-2 mod can work in multiplayer only when the server permits it and the required computers have compatible copies of the same release. A mission referencing the aircraft may fail to load correctly, omit the unit or produce errors for players who lack the package.
Installing under Saved Games does not guarantee that a mod will pass every server's integrity policy. Core-file replacements are especially likely to cause integrity-check failures, which is another reason to avoid putting the B-2 into the main DCS installation unless its documentation leaves no alternative.
How do I update or remove the B-2 mod?
Remove the old B-2 folder before installing a replacement release, because copying over it can leave obsolete scripts or model files behind. Preserve any personal liveries or configuration changes separately, then install the new folder and test it in a simple Mission Editor scenario.
To uninstall the aircraft, delete its folder from Saved Games\DCS\Mods\aircraft, or from the alternative location specified by the package. Missions containing that B-2 will no longer have access to the unit and may display a missing-mod warning when opened.
