Is there a DCS OV-10 Bronco mod, and how do I install it?

Adam McEnroe
In short

Install the unofficial DCS OV-10 Bronco mod in Saved Games, verify its folder structure and fix common aircraft-not-showing errors.

Yes. The OV-10A Bronco is available for DCS World as a free, unofficial community aircraft mod, not an Eagle Dynamics module. Install its extracted aircraft folder under your active Saved Games DCS profile in Mods\aircraft, then restart DCS and confirm the Bronco appears as a flyable aircraft in the mission editor.

Is the OV-10A an official DCS World module?

No. The OV-10A is a community project, so DCS Module Manager does not install, license or update it. The model, cockpit systems, flight behaviour, weapons and multiplayer support can vary between releases, and a DCS update may temporarily break compatibility.

Do not confuse a mission containing an AI or static Bronco with an installable player aircraft. Our checks for distinguishing a flyable community aircraft from an AI-only asset apply to the OV-10 as well.

How do I install the OV-10 Bronco mod in DCS World?

Install the packaged aircraft release in the Saved Games profile used by your DCS installation, not inside the simulator's main installation directory.

  1. Obtain the packaged release. Use a maintainer-issued release archive that is identified as compatible with your DCS build. A source-code snapshot may not contain the ready-to-use aircraft structure.
  2. Find the active DCS profile. It is commonly %USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\DCS\ or, for installations retaining the older profile name, %USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\. If both exist, launch DCS and see which profile has an updated Logs\dcs.log file.
  3. Create the aircraft directory if necessary. The resulting path should be Saved Games\DCS\Mods\aircraft\, substituting the active profile name where required. Our complete DCS mod folder and extraction guide covers redirected Saved Games folders and other path variations.
  4. Extract the archive somewhere temporary. Find the aircraft folder containing entry.lua, then copy that complete folder into Mods\aircraft. The correct arrangement is Mods\aircraft\<Bronco folder>\entry.lua, not an extra nested folder such as <Bronco folder>\<Bronco folder>\entry.lua.
  5. Remove an older copy before updating. Delete only the previous Bronco mod folder and copy in the replacement. Merging releases can leave obsolete scripts, cockpit files or binaries behind.
  6. Restart and verify DCS. Open the mission editor, select a country supported by the mod, place the OV-10 and set its skill to Player or Client. Check Options > Controls for an OV-10 control category and bind the flight axes before loading the mission.

The same clean Saved Games method is demonstrated in our worked community-aircraft installation example, although the aircraft folder names are different.

Never overwrite the official aircraft directories under <DCS installation>\Mods\aircraft. Files placed there can trigger integrity or authorisation problems and may be removed by an update or repair.

Why is the OV-10 Bronco not showing in DCS?

A missing OV-10 is usually caused by the wrong Saved Games profile, an extra folder level or an incompatible package rather than a failed DCS installation.

SymptomLikely causeWhat to check
No OV-10 in the editor or controlsWrong profile, nested archive or incomplete packageConfirm that the active profile's Bronco folder contains entry.lua directly and that dcs.log belongs to the same profile.
Aircraft is absent from a country's listUnsupported country or historical unit filteringTry a country assigned by the mod and check the mission date or historical-unit filter.
Aircraft appears but cannot be flownThe unit is set to an AI skill levelChange the mission-editor skill to Player for single-player or Client for a selectable slot.
Startup errors, missing cockpit elements or broken controlsOld files were merged with a newer release, or the release is incompatibleRemove the mod folder, install a clean compatible package and read its included dependency notes. Do not delete the whole DCS input configuration.
Single-player works but multiplayer does notVersion mismatch or server restrictionsUse the same mod release on the server and participating clients, and confirm that the server permits unofficial aircraft.

For a precise diagnosis, open Saved Games\<active DCS profile>\Logs\dcs.log after a failed launch and search for the Bronco folder name, entry.lua or nearby ERROR entries. Reinstalling DCS rarely fixes a community mod stored in Saved Games.

Will the OV-10 mod work after DCS updates and in multiplayer?

It may, but unofficial aircraft have no guaranteed compatibility with later DCS builds. Keep the downloaded archive until the replacement is working, install updates as clean copies and check the package's compatibility information after a major simulator change.

Multiplayer normally requires the server and relevant clients to use the same compatible OV-10 release. A server can also reject unofficial aircraft through its mission requirements or integrity policies even when the mod works correctly in single-player.

To uninstall the Bronco, close DCS and remove only its folder from Saved Games\<active DCS profile>\Mods\aircraft. Because a correct installation does not alter the core simulator, no DCS repair should be necessary.
