How do I combine TerraSync with custom scenery?
Keep custom scenery separate from the TerraSync cache and give the custom folder higher search priority only where it is meant to replace the standard scenery.
- Establish a baseline. Visit the airport using TerraSync alone, allow its tiles to finish downloading and relaunch FlightGear if the scene loaded before the download completed.
- Inspect the package structure. The directory added to FlightGear should normally sit immediately above scenery folders such as
TerrainorObjects, not one level above an extra wrapper directory. - Protect the TerraSync cache. Do not extract third-party files directly into its managed directory. Mixed files are difficult to remove and may later be replaced or conflict with synchronised content.
- Set the search order deliberately. Place the custom scenery directory ahead of standard scenery and TerraSync. An object-only airport upgrade is usually safer than a package containing a complete replacement terrain tile.
- Add one package at a time. Test the airport before installing another package in the same region. This makes duplicate buildings, missing objects and elevation conflicts much easier to trace.

Why does a recommended airport still look poor?
A well-regarded airport can look empty or broken when its terrain tile, object layer or custom scenery path has not loaded correctly.
- Ocean, blank ground or a missing airport: the required terrain tile is absent, incomplete or stored outside the active scenery path.
- Runways without terminals: FlightGear has the airport layout data but lacks detailed 3D objects for that location.
- Duplicate terminals or buildings: two object packages cover the same airport, usually TerraSync plus a custom package.
- Floating or sunken runways: terrain and airport data were generated from incompatible elevations or different scenery generations.
- Long pauses and late-appearing objects: scenery is still downloading or the simulator is loading a dense tile. Cache the area before departure and reduce object density if performance remains poor.

Scenery does not update navigation data. If the airport looks correct but an ILS frequency, waypoint or procedure is wrong, changing the scenery package will not fix it.
