Which MSFS 2020 ATC add-on should I choose?

BeyondATC is our general recommendation for IFR flying, particularly if the priority is believable airline radio work without the configuration depth of an older desktop application.

Before paying, check that the advertised MSFS 2020 functions cover your type of flying. IFR clearance support, VFR services, AI-traffic control, premium voices and cloud usage are separate features; the presence of one does not guarantee the others.

Do ATC add-ons control AI traffic?

Some ATC add-ons can sequence compatible AI aircraft, but a voice ATC product and a traffic injector are not automatically the same thing.

FSHud places particular emphasis on coordinated traffic. BeyondATC also needs its supported traffic system and settings to be treated as a separate part of the installation. SayIntentions.AI and Pilot2ATC should not be assumed to control every aircraft produced by MSFS Live Traffic or another injector.

A mistake we see constantly is installing an ATC application beside several active traffic sources. That can create duplicate aircraft, conflicting runway use and aeroplanes which ignore the add-on's instructions. Use one injector unless the ATC developer explicitly supports a different arrangement. How should I set up an ATC add-on in MSFS 2020?

A reliable setup requires one controller, one agreed flight plan and one compatible traffic source.

  1. Use only one ATC system. Disable AI radio-communication assistance and do not operate the built-in ATC alongside the replacement. Two active controllers cause duplicate voices and contradictory clearances.
  2. Load the same route everywhere. The add-on, aircraft flight-management system and simulator should agree on the origin, destination and route. Recheck the ATC application after changing the route in the cockpit.
  3. Keep navigation data compatible. Different procedure or runway data can produce unknown fixes, rejected airways and impossible clearances. Add-on scenery may also have taxiway or runway identifiers that differ from the ATC database.
  4. Select one traffic source. If the ATC product supplies or manages traffic, disable conflicting MSFS Live Traffic and other injectors unless the product instructions specifically allow them.
  5. Test audio before departure. Confirm the Windows input device, push-to-talk assignment, recognition language and output device before starting engines.

If ATC will not respond, first check the simulator connection and push-to-talk focus. Incorrect taxi instructions usually point to an airport-layout mismatch, while aircraft ignoring the controller normally indicate an unsupported injector or an ownship-only ATC mode.

Can I use these ATC add-ons on Xbox?

BeyondATC, SayIntentions.AI, FSHud and Pilot2ATC require external PC software and simulator data connections, so they are not available as equivalent native Xbox add-ons for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020.

Xbox pilots must use the simulator's built-in ATC and assistance features. External clients for human-controller networks are also PC applications, which prevents Xbox users from obtaining the same integrated radio experience.
