- IL-2 Sturmovik titles: A strong choice for formations, AI crews, ground targets and campaign-style sorties. The flyable bomber roster depends on the particular title and content owned.
- Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024: Strong for visuals, navigation and recreated ferry or operational routes, but neither provides a native full-scale WWII combat campaign. - Exact simulator release: An FSX aircraft is not automatically native to Prepar3D, and MSFS 2020 compatibility does not guarantee MSFS 2024 compatibility.
- Bombing system: Confirm whether bombs are functional objects, animated visual stores or merely payload entries. Look for a working bombsight or bombardier position if level bombing is the aim.
- Crew stations: Heavy bombers lose much of their purpose when only the pilot's seat is represented. Check whether turrets and other stations are usable, automated or decorative.
- Engine controls: A worthwhile model should account for propeller pitch, mixture, cooling and supercharger operation where appropriate to the aircraft.
- Documentation and control assignments: Some add-ons use a dedicated bomb-release command rather than the simulator's generic payload-jettison control.
