Every tier lists 50 GB of storage. In practice, leave additional space for the rolling cache, downloaded content, updates and add-ons, and install the simulator on an SSD. You do not need the exact components named in the table; genuinely equivalent or faster hardware can qualify. An Intel Core i7 badge by itself proves little because generation matters, while 8 GB of VRAM does not automatically make a weak graphics card suitable. How do I check whether my PC meets the requirements?
Use Windows diagnostic tools to find the exact CPU, graphics processor, memory and available storage rather than relying on a broad label such as “gaming PC”.
- Check the processor and RAM: press
Windows key + R, enterdxdiagand open the System tab. Record the processor model, installed memory and Windows version. - Identify the graphics card: open the Display tab in DxDiag and note the full GPU name and Display Memory. On a laptop with integrated and dedicated graphics, inspect every Display or Render tab.
- Check storage: open This PC in File Explorer and confirm that the intended SSD has substantially more than 50 GB free.
- Check the connection: compare the stable speed available to the PC—not merely the broadband package's advertised maximum—with the internet tier in the table.
- Compare the complete system: the weakest major component usually determines the result. A recommended-level GPU cannot compensate for a processor below minimum, and extra RAM cannot repair inadequate graphics performance.
Intel UHD, older Iris and many other integrated graphics processors fall below the published GPU floor despite sharing system memory that may be reported as available graphics memory. A machine below that floor might launch MSFS 2024, but we would not treat it as a dependable or supported configuration.
What performance should I expect?
Meeting the minimum requirements means MSFS 2024 should run with compromises; it does not guarantee a particular resolution, graphics preset or frame rate.
- Minimum hardware: start with low settings, conservative render scaling, limited traffic and a reduced Terrain Level of Detail. Dense airports and complex airliners may still stutter.
- Recommended hardware: this is a practical baseline for stronger image quality and more consistent performance, although large hubs, live traffic and detailed add-ons can remain demanding.
- Ideal hardware: this provides more scope for high resolutions, detailed scenery and demanding aircraft, but it is not a promise that every setting can be maximised in all situations.
Resolution changes the answer significantly. A computer that handles a standard monitor comfortably may struggle with an ultrawide display, 4K output or VR because the GPU must render many more pixels. Frame-generation technology can improve displayed smoothness on supported cards, but it should not be used to disguise an unstable base frame rate.
Which component limits MSFS 2024 most?
The limiting component changes with the aircraft, location and graphics settings.
- CPU: dense airports, complex glass cockpits, AI or live traffic and high Terrain Level of Detail commonly produce a main-thread limit.
- GPU: high output resolution, render scaling, clouds, anti-aliasing and other visual settings increase graphics load.
- RAM and VRAM: insufficient capacity can cause stutters, texture reductions or background paging, especially with detailed add-ons.

Yes, MSFS 2024 relies heavily on streamed world and simulator content, so connection quality affects scenery detail, loading and asset delivery.
Consistency matters as much as headline speed. Wi-Fi interference, packet loss, a data cap or other household downloads can cause delayed textures and scenery pop-in despite an otherwise capable PC. Ethernet is preferable where practical. What should I upgrade if my PC is below minimum?
If one core component is below the minimum tier, upgrade that bottleneck before spending money on parts that already qualify.
- Graphics card below minimum: prioritise the GPU, provided the processor and power supply are suitable. Lower settings may help a marginal card, but they cannot make very old graphics hardware fully compatible.
- Only 8 GB RAM: move to at least 16 GB; 32 GB is the better target for add-ons, detailed aircraft and background applications.
- Processor below minimum: lowering traffic and Terrain Level of Detail can reduce CPU load, but a substantial CPU shortfall usually requires a platform upgrade.
- Mechanical hard drive: move the simulator and its cache to an SSD. This improves loading and asset access, though it will not correct a weak CPU or GPU.
A mistake we see constantly is upgrading RAM because its capacity is easy to compare while overlooking an underpowered GPU or old processor. Desktop systems usually offer more upgrade choices; laptop CPUs and GPUs are commonly fixed, leaving RAM and storage as the only practical internal upgrades.
