ChasePlane usually fails to load or connect to Microsoft Flight Simulator because its build does not support the installed MSFS version, the simulator has not reached a fully loaded flight, Windows has blocked the app, or SimConnect is unavailable. Why won’t ChasePlane open at all?
If ChasePlane produces no usable window, fix the Windows application before investigating SimConnect. SimConnect cannot cause an executable to disappear before its interface opens.
- End stale processes: close ChasePlane and any associated updater in Task Manager, then reopen it. Restart Windows if the process immediately returns or cannot be ended cleanly.
- Check for an off-screen window: this commonly follows a monitor change or disconnected secondary display. Use the Windows taskbar controls to move or maximise the existing window.
- Review security blocks: inspect Windows Security or third-party antivirus history for a quarantined ChasePlane component. Restore a file only when it belongs to the genuine installer you obtained.
- Use normal privileges: run both MSFS and ChasePlane as the same Windows user and privilege level. Running one as administrator and the other normally can interfere with input handling and communication.
- Repair the correct build: do not copy an older ChasePlane folder over a new installation. Preserve any camera profiles you need, then repair or reinstall the build intended for your simulator.

How do I fix ChasePlane stuck connecting to MSFS?
For a connection failure, establish a simple working MSFS session before changing camera profiles or controller assignments.
- Confirm that MSFS itself works: load a default aircraft at an uncomplicated airport and wait until the cockpit is fully interactive. If the simulator cannot reach a flight, diagnose the underlying MSFS start-up or loading failure first.
- Restart in diagnostic order: close ChasePlane, leave Microsoft Flight Simulator running, enter the cockpit and then open ChasePlane again. This distinguishes an early start-up timing problem from a persistent connection failure.
- Verify simulator compatibility: check that the installed ChasePlane release explicitly supports either MSFS 2020 or MSFS 2024, whichever you are running. The Microsoft Store or Steam edition is not normally the deciding factor.
- Match privilege levels: return both applications to standard-user mode unless documented installation requirements say otherwise. Do not use permanent administrator access merely to hide a permissions fault.
- Remove competing tools: close other camera managers and unnecessary SimConnect companion apps for one test. Also disable overlays or controller utilities that intercept the same view controls.
- Check security software: allow ChasePlane’s installed components through protection prompts on trusted networks. Use any temporary antivirus or firewall test only long enough to identify the block, then restore protection and create a narrow exception.
- Repair SimConnect: if ChasePlane still waits while a flight is active, follow our MSFS-specific SimConnect repair sequence. Avoid installing assorted legacy SimConnect packages or deleting configuration files blindly.
- Repair ChasePlane last: reinstall its compatible build while retaining profile backups where possible. Reboot before testing so an old process or locked file cannot survive the reinstall.
A custom SimConnect configuration created for another utility can also redirect or block a local client. Set it aside only if you know it was manually added; default simulator files should not be removed as a speculative fix.
Why does ChasePlane connect but not control the camera?
A connected status means the basic SimConnect link is working, so repairing it repeatedly is unlikely to restore camera movement. The remaining fault is usually an inactive aircraft profile, duplicate input binding or another tool taking control of the view.
- Select or associate the correct ChasePlane profile after the aircraft has finished loading.
- Test one ChasePlane camera command from the keyboard before troubleshooting a joystick, yoke or controller.
- Temporarily remove duplicate cockpit, external-view and drone-camera bindings assigned to the same button in MSFS.
- Close other camera applications and test again with a default aircraft.
- If only one add-on aircraft is affected, recreate its profile association rather than resetting every ChasePlane setting.

Can ChasePlane connect to MSFS on Xbox or PlayStation?
A Windows ChasePlane installation cannot use the normal PC companion-app and SimConnect workflow with console editions of Microsoft Flight Simulator. These troubleshooting steps apply to MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024 on Windows PC, not Xbox Series X|S or MSFS 2024 on PlayStation 5.
Do I need to reinstall Microsoft Flight Simulator?
Reinstalling Microsoft Flight Simulator is rarely justified for a ChasePlane-only failure. Repair ChasePlane and SimConnect first; consider repairing the simulator itself only when MSFS cannot load properly or several otherwise working SimConnect applications fail in the same way.
