Where can you get current KDEN NOTAMs?

Use the FAA NOTAM Search system for a direct KDEN airport query, then obtain a complete briefing through Flight Service or an authorised briefing provider.   1. Search for KDEN. Some raw domestic notices display DEN rather than KDEN; that does not mean you have the wrong airport.

  3. Review every relevant category. Do not filter the results down to runway notices alone. Include taxiways, lighting, communications, navigation aids, obstacles, services and FDC notices.

How do you decode a KDEN NOTAM?

Read a NOTAM from left to right: issuing location and number, affected facility, subject, condition, schedule and effective dates. A schematic line such as !DEN <number> DEN RWY 17L/35R CLSD <start>-<end> means that the physical runway designated 17L in one direction and 35R in the other is closed during the stated period.

Denver observes Mountain Standard Time or Mountain Daylight Time depending on the date. Convert from UTC carefully, especially when the validity period crosses midnight. A schedule marked DLY applies only during the stated hours on each day inside the wider validity range.

EST means the ending is estimated; do not assume the condition disappeared without verifying that the notice was cancelled or replaced. PERM indicates a permanent change awaiting incorporation into the appropriate publication or data.

What do KDEN runway and FICON notices mean?

A runway notice applies only to the runway identified. KDEN has several parallel and crossing designations, so RWY 17L/35R CLSD closes one physical strip in both directions; it does not close 17R/35L or the entire airport.

A FICON notice may show three runway condition codes for the first, middle and final thirds of the runway in the named direction. The scale runs from 6 for dry through progressively poorer conditions to 0 for nil braking action. Read the codes together with the contaminant, depth, coverage, observation time, aircraft performance data and operator rules.

Which KDEN NOTAMs can change the flight plan?

Prioritise notices by their effect on the planned operation, not by their order on the results page.

  • Runway closures or reduced declared distances: select another runway and recalculate take-off or landing performance.
  • ILS, localiser, glideslope, approach-light or RVR outages: check whether the expected approach remains available and whether its minima still work with the forecast conditions.
  • FDC procedure changes: apply amended minima, restrictions or procedure instructions rather than relying solely on the chart image.
  • Taxiway closures: trace the remaining route on the airport diagram and identify any runway crossings or unsuitable turns.
  • FICON reports: reassess stopping performance, crosswind limits and braking assumptions.
  • Obstacle notices: compare the coordinates and altitude with the departure or approach corridor rather than dismissing every crane as irrelevant.

Do KDEN NOTAMs include weather, TFRs and ATIS?

NOTAMs do not replace weather reports, ATIS or a TFR review. A FICON describes an observed runway condition, but the METAR supplies wind, visibility, ceiling and altimeter information; our guide can help you decode the accompanying METAR.

Some restrictions are distributed as FDC NOTAMs, but a KDEN-only query is not a complete TFR or route check. ATIS supplies immediate airport operating information and may mention significant closures, yet it does not reproduce every applicable notice. Why does a KDEN NOTAM look missing or out of date?

The usual cause is a search or timing mismatch rather than an airport-code problem.

  • Wrong validity window: search the planned flight time in UTC, not just the present moment.
  • Over-aggressive filtering: restore FDC, navigation, lighting and service categories.
  • Local-time conversion error: account for Denver's daylight-saving status and any UTC date change.
  • Replaced or cancelled notice: use the live official record instead of a saved result or screenshot.
  • Simulator date mismatch: live NOTAMs are useful only when the simulation represents the same period and compatible airport layout. Historical flights and older scenery may require a different operational setup.

For real-world flying, check during initial planning, obtain the required briefing before departure, and refresh the information close to take-off. On arrival, review updated NOTAMs and ATIS early enough to change the approach, landing-performance calculation or taxi plan without rushing.
