Download a freeware Cessna 152 add-on for FSX, choose the right package, and fix common installation or FSX: Steam Edition problems.
You can download a complete freeware Cessna 152 Aerobat add-on for FSX from Fly Away Simulation. Choose the full aircraft package if you do not already have the required base model; texture-only repaints change the livery but will not appear as flyable aircraft when installed by themselves.
Which Cessna 152 file should I download?
Most users should start with the complete freeware Cessna 152 Aerobat package. FSX and FSX: Steam Edition include a Cessna 172, but not a stock flyable Cessna 152, so a complete aircraft package is required before C152-specific repaints can be used.
| Download type | Choose it when | What it contains |
|---|---|---|
| Complete aircraft | You do not yet have the required C152 model | The aircraft configuration and the model, panel, sound and texture folders needed by that package |
| Repaint or livery | The specified base aircraft is already installed | Replacement textures and usually an aircraft configuration entry |
A repaint must match the exact base model named on its download page. For example, the green-and-white Cessna 152 texture set requires the identified Rancho JEN-based aircraft; it is not a standalone aeroplane.
How do I install the Cessna 152 in FSX?
Install the extracted aircraft folder under the simulator’s SimObjects\Airplanes directory, preserving the package’s internal folder structure.
- Download and extract the archive. Do not place the ZIP file itself in FSX.
- Find the actual aircraft folder. It should contain
aircraft.cfgand normally folders such asmodel, panel, soundandtexture. - Copy that folder to
[FSX installation folder]\SimObjects\Airplanes. Steam installations use the same directory structure inside their own FSX installation folder. - Restart FSX and open the aircraft selection screen. Check the Cessna manufacturer listing and enable all variations if the livery is hidden.

Why does the Cessna 152 not appear in FSX?
A missing Cessna 152 is usually caused by an incorrect folder level or by installing a repaint without its required aircraft.
- Double-nested folder: FSX cannot find an arrangement such as
SimObjects\Airplanes\C152\C152\aircraft.cfg. Move the inner aircraft folder up one level. - Repaint installed alone: download and install the complete base aircraft first.
- Archive not extracted: FSX does not load an aircraft directly from a ZIP or other compressed archive.
- Configuration entry missing: a repaint needs a correctly numbered
[fltsim.x]section inaircraft.cfg. Follow the repaint’s supplied instructions rather than copying an entry from a different C152. - Aircraft filters active: clear manufacturer, publisher or aircraft-type filters and show all variations.
A missing thumbnail does not necessarily mean the installation failed. The aircraft may still be selectable without a preview image.
Does the Cessna 152 work in FSX: Steam Edition?
Conventional FSX aircraft packages generally work in FSX: Steam Edition, but older automatic installers may point to the boxed-edition directory. Select the actual Steam FSX folder when the installer permits it, or extract and copy the aircraft manually. Our FSX: Steam Edition compatibility guidance covers path errors and other common add-on differences.
