The basic process applies to supported PC installations of MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024, although individual menu labels can change between GSX builds. GSX Pro is a PC add-on; these editing controls are not available on the Xbox or PlayStation versions.

How do I edit a GSX pushback route?

QuickEdit saves each route against a specific airport parking position, so begin at the exact stand you intend to customise.

  1. Confirm the active stand and scenery. Park where GSX recognises the correct gate or ramp position. If both default and add-on airport scenery are installed, verify that GSX has loaded the profile for the scenery you are actually using.
  2. Open the GSX menu. Use the GSX icon on the in-sim toolbar, then select the airport-position customisation command. Choose the current stand manually if GSX has selected a neighbouring position.
  3. Select the pushback entry. Choose the direction or custom pushback slot you want to alter. Keep separate entries when a stand needs more than one valid exit, such as nose-left and nose-right routes.
  4. Launch QuickEdit Pushback. Use the control legend displayed by the editor to move the endpoint, alter the final aircraft heading and set any route-direction options offered by that GSX build. The on-screen legend is more reliable than a generic keyboard chart because laptop layouts and bindings differ.
  5. Check the geometry. Leave enough straight distance for the aircraft and tug to clear the stand before a turn. Position the aircraft on the intended taxiway centreline at the end, with room for tug disconnection.
  6. Save and exit normally. Use QuickEdit's confirm or save command before leaving the editor. Cancelling the edit or closing Couatl before saving can discard the changes.
  7. Test through GSX. Reset at the same stand, request pushback and choose the edited route from the GSX menu. If the old route remains, restart Couatl from the GSX controls and reopen the menu.

Use GSX controls for every part of a GSX pushback; Microsoft Flight Simulator's standard pushback commands operate a different tug system.

If an editor key does nothing, return focus to the simulator, close any active search box and check Num Lock when the overlay requests keypad input. Also inspect duplicate camera and slew bindings. How should the endpoint and final heading be set?

The endpoint should place the whole aircraft safely on the intended taxi path, not merely put the nose wheel on the centreline.

  • Allow for the wingspan and tail of the largest aircraft expected to use the route.
  • Avoid a sharp turn immediately after movement begins; it can produce unrealistic tug steering or insufficient stand clearance.
  • Set the final orientation by the aircraft's nose, not by the apparent direction in which the tug faces.
  • Do not end the route on a runway, taxiway intersection or a point where the tug cannot disconnect without obstructing traffic.
  • Test both route choices where labels such as left and right could be ambiguous. Clear names based on the final nose direction are easier to recognise if the profile editor permits custom labels.

Why does my edited GSX route not appear?

A missing edited route usually means GSX loaded a different stand or airport profile, or Couatl has not refreshed the saved data.

  • Wrong parking position: similarly named stands, heavy variants and adjacent gates are separate profile entries.
  • Wrong scenery profile: duplicate airport packages or a changed scenery installation can cause GSX to match a different airport layout.
  • Edit was not saved: leaving QuickEdit through cancel, a crash or a Couatl restart can lose an unconfirmed route.
  • Stale GSX menu: restart Couatl, wait for GSX to initialise, then reopen the airport at the same stand.
  • Conflicting pushback system: disable the default tug command, aircraft EFB pushback and other toolbar pushback tools while using GSX.

GSX stores these changes in the airport profile rather than the aircraft control preset or scenery itself. Back up the user-edited profile before replacing imported airport profiles, and remember that a route made for one scenery package may not align with another version of the same airport.

Can I steer GSX manually during pushback?

GSX normally follows the selected saved route rather than accepting continuous left and right steering from the standard MSFS pushback bindings.

Choose the correct route before starting. If the aircraft is heading towards an obstruction, stop or abort through GSX and correct the profile; activating another tug controller mid-pushback can leave the aircraft, tug and GSX service state out of sync.
