Pink or missing textures in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 mean the sim cannot load a texture referenced by an aircraft, livery, airport or scenery package. The usual causes are an outdated or incomplete add-on, a missing dependency, duplicate packages, damaged official content or, less often, a corrupt rolling cache.
Fast diagnosis: if only one aircraft, livery or airport is pink, suspect its package or dependencies. If default aircraft and scenery are affected throughout the simulator, investigate official content, the installation and graphics driver instead.
What do pink textures mean in MSFS 2020?
Solid pink or magenta geometry is MSFS 2020's visible fallback when a model loads but its referenced texture does not. An entirely invisible building or aircraft part can indicate that the model or package itself failed to load, rather than just its texture.
The problem is normally with package content, not graphics quality settings. Lowering texture resolution may reduce memory use, but it will not repair a missing file, incorrect texture reference or absent library.
How can I identify the broken package?
The location and scope of the fault usually reveal which type of content needs attention.

How do I fix pink or missing textures?
Restart MSFS 2020 completely. Packages are mounted when the simulator starts, so changing files while it remains open is not a reliable test.
Test a stock aircraft at a stock airport. Use a default livery and note whether the pink texture follows the aircraft, stays at the airport or appears across the world. This prevents an unnecessary full reinstall for a fault confined to one add-on.
Empty the Community folder on PC. Move its contents to a temporary folder; do not delete them. If the simulator offers Safe Mode after an abnormal closure, use that as an additional isolation test. A mistake we see constantly is testing the wrong Community folder, so check our instructions for finding the active Community folder and correct package nesting.
If symbolic links are in use, moving ordinary files may leave linked packages active. Follow the procedure for disabling packages managed through MSFS Addons Linker as well.
Restore add-ons in batches. Add half the packages, restart the simulator and repeat the same flight. When the fault returns, split the last batch again. This binary-search method is much quicker than testing a large collection one package at a time.
Remove duplicate versions of the culprit. An old airport, aircraft or livery can override files from its replacement even when their folder names differ.
Reinstall the affected add-on and its dependencies. Extract a fresh copy rather than copying it over the old folder. Airport scenery may require a separate object library, while a livery must match the exact aircraft and variant for which it was made. Do not copy random texture files between products. Texture configuration and package layout references matter, and replacing one visible file can create new missing materials elsewhere.
Repair official content. Open Content Manager from the MSFS 2020 main menu, install available package updates and inspect the affected aircraft, airport or World Update. Where Content Manager permits it, remove and download only the damaged package again.
A platform-level file verification may check the base application without repairing every separately downloaded content package. Use it after the targeted Content Manager repair, not as a substitute for it.
Clear the rolling cache when streamed scenery is affected. Delete it through the simulator's Data settings, restart MSFS and either recreate it or leave it disabled for the test. Check the rendering path only if stock content is still affected. Restart the PC, remove any GPU overclock, update or reinstall the graphics driver and test the alternative DirectX option offered by MSFS 2020. Persistent magenta on one object usually indicates a package fault; widespread flickering, coloured blocks or corruption across unrelated stock content points more strongly to the driver or GPU.
Why does a livery turn pink after an MSFS update?
A livery can depend on texture names, fallback paths or model definitions from a particular aircraft version. If the aircraft changes but an older livery continues overriding those references, the model may load with pink sections.
Remove the livery and test the aircraft's default paint scheme. If that works, obtain a compatible livery release or leave the old one disabled. Updating Microsoft Flight Simulator does not update manually installed Community packages automatically.
How do I fix pink textures on Xbox?
Xbox has no user-accessible Community folder, so focus on installed Marketplace and official packages. Remove the recently added or affected package through Content Manager, restart the console fully, download it again and reset the rolling cache if streamed scenery is involved.
A complete simulator reinstall should be the last step. Do not erase saved data or reserved storage casually, because that can remove downloaded content and local settings without addressing an isolated faulty add-on.
When is a full MSFS 2020 reinstall necessary?
A full reinstall is justified only when default content remains broken with an empty Community folder, targeted official packages have been downloaded again, the rolling cache has been reset and graphics-driver testing has ruled out rendering corruption. Reinstalling the whole simulator will not fix an incompatible livery or scenery package that is restored afterwards.
Do not delete the entire Official package folder as an early troubleshooting step. That turns a small repair into a large download and makes it harder to identify the original fault.
