Find out whether a free Boeing 777 exists for MSFS 2024, how to spot liveries and paid dependencies, and why FSX aircraft will not work.
No dependable, fully native freeware Boeing 777 is available for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 that we can recommend as a complete aircraft. Most downloads described as a “free 777” are liveries, unfinished projects, enhancement mods requiring a paid base aircraft, or legacy FSX/Prepar3D packages that will not work properly in MSFS 2024.
MSFS 2024 does not include a stock Boeing 777. Announced freeware projects may eventually produce usable aircraft, but development screenshots and work-in-progress builds are not the same as a complete, supported download. What does a “free 777” download actually include?
A free download carrying the Boeing 777 name is often an accessory rather than a flyable aircraft.

Look especially for phrases such as base aircraft required, livery only and enhancement package. A 777-300ER repaint also will not necessarily fit a 777-200ER or 777F; each variant can use different model and texture mappings.
Why will an FSX or Prepar3D 777 not work in MSFS 2024?
FSX and Prepar3D aircraft cannot be installed in MSFS 2024 simply by copying their aircraft folders into the Community folder.
For example, this free FSX and Prepar3D 777-300ER package is a valid download for those simulators, but it is not an MSFS 2024 aircraft. Legacy models, gauges, configuration files and sound systems require a proper conversion or complete rebuild.
Adding manifest.json and layout.json files or renaming folders does not perform that conversion. It may leave the aircraft absent from the selection screen, without a functioning cockpit, or cause an endless loading screen.
How can I check a free 777 before installing it?
A genuine MSFS 2024 aircraft listing should identify the simulator, platform, dependencies and exact 777 variant without relying on vague claims such as “works with Flight Simulator”.
- Confirm the simulator. The description should explicitly mention MSFS 2024 support. An MSFS 2020 label alone only indicates the package’s original target.
- Identify the package type. Check whether it is a complete aircraft, livery, sound pack or systems enhancement.
- Read the dependencies. If a commercial 777, another aircraft or an avionics package is required, the download is not a standalone free 777.
- Match the exact variant. Confirm whether the files are for the 777-200ER, 777-300ER, freighter or another model.
- Check the intended mode. An aircraft that loads in Free Flight is not automatically supported in Career Mode or activities.
Some complete MSFS 2020 aircraft can operate through MSFS 2024 compatibility support, but complex airliners are more likely to expose problems with avionics, cockpit interactions, WASM modules or flight-model behaviour. Can free 777 downloads be installed on Xbox or PS5?
PC Community-folder aircraft cannot be sideloaded on Xbox Series X|S or PlayStation 5. Console users are limited to aircraft and add-ons distributed through the simulator’s built-in Marketplace, so a PC freeware package will not transfer to either console.

Practical alternatives
- For a functional 777: choose an aircraft that explicitly supports MSFS 2024 and your platform, even if that means using payware.
- For a zero-cost airliner: select a complete freeware aircraft of another type rather than forcing an incompatible legacy 777 into the simulator.
- For a particular airline paint scheme: install a free livery only after confirming that you own the exact base aircraft and variant it requires.
A repaint cannot turn the default Boeing 747-8 into a 777, even if its title, thumbnail or airline colours say otherwise. The cockpit, dimensions, flight model and systems remain those of the original aircraft.
