Learn how to get a Boeing 747-200 in MSFS 2024, what works on PC and consoles, why legacy add-ons fail, and how to avoid model-swap traps.
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 does not include a Boeing 747-200. You need a complete third-party aircraft explicitly marked as MSFS 2024-compatible; old FS2004 and FSX packages will not work. PC users can install Community packages, while Xbox and PlayStation users are limited to aircraft offered through the in-simulator Marketplace.
Is there a native Boeing 747-200 in MSFS 2024?
No 747-200 is included with MSFS 2024; the stock Jumbo is the much newer Boeing 747-8. A livery cannot turn that aircraft into a 747-200 because the fuselage, wings, engines, flight deck, performance and systems differ.
The key distinction is between a complete aircraft and a visual conversion. Some downloads labelled 747-200 merely place a classic-looking exterior over the 747-8 cockpit and systems. That may be adequate for screenshots, but it is not an authentic 747-200 simulation. Our explanation of classic 747-100 and 747-200 options and their compromises covers the limitations commonly found in these packages.
Which type of 747-200 download should I choose?
Choose a complete MSFS 2024 aircraft when available, not a repaint, enhancement or unsupported legacy conversion.
| Package type | MSFS 2024 suitability | What it provides |
|---|---|---|
| Complete MSFS 2024 aircraft | Best choice when explicitly supported | Its own exterior model, cockpit, flight model and systems, although fidelity varies |
| MSFS 2020 aircraft | Only when its developer confirms MSFS 2024 compatibility | May work, but gauges, sounds, animations or systems can fail after migration |
| 747-200 visual conversion | May work with a required base aircraft | Classic exterior, often combined with 747-8 systems and cockpit |
| 747-200 livery | Works only with the specified base model | Paint scheme only; it does not add an aircraft |
| FSX or FS2004 aircraft | Not compatible | Legacy models, gauges and configuration files that MSFS 2024 cannot use directly |
A mistake we see constantly is copying an old freeware 747-200 into the Community folder because its download page says “Microsoft Flight Simulator”. That wording may refer to FS2004 or FSX. Check the named simulator and required base aircraft before downloading; our legacy aircraft compatibility guide explains why those packages cannot simply be moved into MSFS 2024.
How do I install a compatible 747-200 on PC?
PC users install compatible aircraft through the Community folder unless the package supplies its own installer. Our complete MSFS aircraft installation procedure covers the folder locations and package checks in detail.
- Confirm the simulator and dependencies. The download must name MSFS 2024 or state that its MSFS 2020 version has been tested in MSFS 2024. Check whether it requires the stock 747-8 or another base package.
- Extract the archive. Do not place the unopened ZIP or RAR file in the Community folder.
- Copy the actual package folder. The folder containing
manifest.jsonandlayout.jsonshould normally sit directly insideCommunity, not inside an extra wrapper folder. - Remove older copies. Keeping two versions of the same aircraft can cause duplicate entries, missing textures and conflicting systems.
- Restart MSFS 2024 and test it cleanly. Clear aircraft-selection filters, search for “747”, and first load the aircraft with its supplied default livery at an ordinary airport.
Can I install a 747-200 on Xbox or PlayStation?
Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 users cannot sideload Community aircraft. A Boeing 747-200 must be offered through the in-simulator Marketplace for that console, and the listing must specifically support MSFS 2024 and your platform. A PC download cannot be transferred manually to either console.
Why does the 747-200 not appear or work?
Most missing or broken 747-200 installations are caused by the wrong simulator version, a nested package folder or an absent base-aircraft dependency.
- Aircraft absent from the selector: check for an extra folder level and confirm that the download is a complete aircraft rather than a livery.
- Pink, chequered or invisible model: reinstall the required base aircraft or texture dependency and remove duplicate package versions.
- Blank displays or dead controls: the package probably uses incompatible gauges or systems from MSFS 2020, FSX or FS2004.
- 747-200 outside but 747-8 inside: this is usually a deliberate model swap, not an installation fault.
- Crash or endless loading: remove the package, launch the simulator without it, then obtain a confirmed MSFS 2024 build rather than overwriting the faulty copy.
What is the best alternative to a 747-200?
Use the included Boeing 747-8 when you want a functional heavy Boeing without compatibility problems. It is not historically or technically interchangeable with the 747-200, but it offers a complete long-haul aircraft and works across supported MSFS 2024 platforms; our 747-8 setup and flying guide covers the next steps.
If the classic exterior matters more than cockpit accuracy, a documented 747-200 visual conversion may be acceptable. If authentic analogue-era controls, performance and systems are the priority, accept only a complete aircraft package that explicitly states what is modelled and confirms MSFS 2024 support.
