How can I get a Boeing 717 in MSFS 2024?

Adam McEnroe
In short

Learn how to get a Boeing 717 in MSFS 2024 on PC, Xbox or PlayStation, verify compatibility, install it and fix a missing aircraft.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 does not include a Boeing 717 as a standard aircraft. To get one, you need a complete third-party 717 add-on explicitly marked for MSFS 2024—or confirmed compatible with it. PC users can install Marketplace or Community packages; Xbox and PlayStation users are limited to Marketplace releases.

Where can I get a Boeing 717 for MSFS 2024?

Start with the in-simulator Marketplace and search for both Boeing 717 and 717. Marketplace catalogues can differ between PC, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, so an aircraft offered on one platform is not guaranteed to appear on another.

Our platform-by-platform aircraft buying walkthrough explains how Marketplace purchases are added to the simulator. PC users can also consult our guide to identifying complete MSFS 2024 aircraft packages.

Before obtaining any 717, check that the listing describes a complete aircraft. A livery, repaint or texture pack only changes the appearance of an existing model and is useless unless you already own the required base aircraft.

  • Look for an explicit MSFS 2024 compatibility statement, not merely the word “MSFS”.
  • Check whether it has a functional 717 cockpit, FMS, autopilot and flight model rather than only an exterior model.
  • For higher fidelity, look for 717-specific systems and Rolls-Royce BR715 engine behaviour.
  • Check for required base aircraft, libraries or other dependencies before installing.
  • Confirm that your platform is supported; PC compatibility does not imply Xbox or PlayStation availability.

A free Boeing 717 is only useful if it is a full, compatible aircraft package. Our checks for freeware Boeing downloads cover the warning signs that distinguish an aircraft from a livery or an obsolete package.

How do I install a Boeing 717 in MSFS 2024?

  1. Verify the package. Confirm that it is a complete Boeing 717 and supports MSFS 2024 on your platform.
  2. Use the correct distribution route. On Xbox or PlayStation, obtain it through the in-simulator Marketplace. On PC, use either the Marketplace or a properly packaged Community add-on.
  3. Install Marketplace content. After obtaining the aircraft, confirm that it is available or enabled in the simulator’s content library. MSFS 2024 may stream some owned content rather than handling every aircraft as a conventional download.
  4. Extract PC Community packages. Do not place the ZIP or archive itself in the Community folder. Each actual package folder should contain files such as manifest.json and layout.json near its root; an extra wrapper folder is a common reason aircraft fail to load.
  5. Restart and search for the aircraft. Open the aircraft selector, clear active filters and search for “717”. Depending on the package metadata, it may be catalogued under Boeing, the developer’s name or another manufacturer grouping.

Can I install an FSX or Prepar3D Boeing 717?

No—an FSX or Prepar3D Boeing 717 is not a native MSFS 2024 aircraft. Copying its files into the Community folder will not convert its models, gauges, systems or installer. A developer must rebuild or properly port the aircraft for the modern simulator.

An MSFS 2020 package is a different case: some aircraft also work in MSFS 2024, but compatibility should be confirmed by the package developer rather than assumed. Our explanation of legacy add-on compatibility covers why older aircraft cannot simply be reused.

Why does the Boeing 717 not appear in MSFS 2024?

A missing 717 is usually caused by an incomplete installation, the wrong package type or a platform mismatch.

  • It is only a livery: install the exact base 717 named in the livery description.
  • The folder is nested too deeply: on PC, move the real package folder containing its manifest and layout files directly into Community.
  • The aircraft is not enabled: check its status in the simulator’s content library.
  • It targets another simulator: FSX, Prepar3D and unsupported MSFS 2020 packages will not become compatible by changing the folder name.
  • The selector is filtering it out: clear filters and search by “717” rather than relying solely on the Boeing manufacturer category.
  • A dependency is missing: install every required library or base package listed by the aircraft developer.
  • Another PC add-on conflicts with it: temporarily move recently installed Community packages elsewhere and test the 717 by itself.

If no compatible Boeing 717 appears in the Marketplace on Xbox or PlayStation, there is no Community-folder workaround. Console users must wait for a Marketplace version approved for their particular platform.
