Which Logitech/Saitek X52 driver should I download?
Download the package published for the exact model printed on the controller's base: the standard X52 and X52 Professional are separate products.
- Match the model: do not install an X52 Pro package on a standard X52, or the reverse, simply because it has a newer date.
- Match Windows: choose the listed Windows version and system architecture. Most MSFS 2024 PCs run 64-bit Windows, but verify this under Windows system information rather than guessing.
- Install the driver first: if separate driver and programming-software packages are offered, the programming component is optional.
- Avoid unrelated software: Logitech G HUB is not the normal configuration utility for the X52. Do not obtain drivers from third-party driver archives.
Windows can sometimes recognise the X52 as a generic HID controller without the model-specific package. That is enough if all axes and buttons work, but the official X52 package may be needed for its control panel, MFD, lighting and profile functions. Legacy Saitek naming in Windows is normal for this older hardware.
How do I install the X52 driver correctly?
- Remove conflicting X52 software. If an older Saitek or Logitech X52 package is already installed and the controller is malfunctioning, uninstall that package and restart Windows. Do not remove unrelated mouse or keyboard software.
- Assemble the HOTAS before USB connection. Join the stick to the throttle with its inter-unit cable, checking that the connector is fully seated. Leave the throttle's USB plug disconnected from the PC.
- Run the correct installer. Approve the Windows administrator prompt and follow the package instructions. Connect the USB cable only when the installer requests it.
- Use a direct USB port initially. Avoid an unpowered hub during installation. Once the device is stable, a good powered hub may work, but a direct connection removes one common source of detection and power faults.
- Check the Windows controller panel. Press Windows key and R, enter
joy.cpl, select the X52 and open its properties. Move the stick, twist grip, throttle, rotaries and slider, then press every button and hat switch. - Calibrate only when necessary. Run Windows calibration if an axis does not centre or reach both endpoints. Do not continue into MSFS 2024 while the controller is already misbehaving in
joy.cpl; the simulator cannot correct a driver-side fault.
How do I configure the X52 controls in MSFS 2024?

- Connect before launching: starting MSFS 2024 with the X52 already attached is more reliable than connecting it after reaching the main menu.
- Select the X52 device: make sure assignments are being edited under the X52 rather than the keyboard, mouse or another controller.
- Create a custom preset: inspect any automatic assignments and remove unsuitable ones. Start with no Logitech/Saitek software profile loaded so the simulator receives raw buttons instead of emulated keystrokes.
- Bind continuous axes: search for the axis command, move only the intended control and confirm that the on-screen input bar follows it smoothly.
- Save and test: confirm that the custom preset remains selected for the aircraft being flown. Some control presets or aircraft-specific assignments can change when switching aircraft.

The X52 has one main throttle lever, so it cannot provide independent physical throttle axes for two engines. For a general-purpose profile, bind that lever to the all-engine throttle command. Aircraft with their own throttle calibration page may need a second calibration there after Windows and MSFS are working correctly.
What X52 sensitivity and dead-zone settings should I use?
Start with the default linear response and add only enough dead zone to stop unwanted movement.
- Stick X and Y: begin at default sensitivity with no added dead zone. Excessive curves can make small corrections gentle but leave the aircraft unnaturally sensitive near the edge of travel.
- Twist rudder: add a small dead zone, often around 2–5%, only if the input indicator flickers while the grip is centred.
- Throttle and rotaries: use no dead zone unless the axis jitters. If an axis cannot reach full travel, correct its Windows calibration before changing sensitivity.
- Reversed movement: use the simulator's reverse-axis option only when the complete input range works in the wrong direction.
Do I need the X52 programming software for MSFS 2024?
No. MSFS 2024 can bind the X52's DirectInput axes and buttons without a Logitech/Saitek software profile.
The optional programming utility is useful for MFD or lighting controls, keyboard commands and mode-based layers. Configure direct simulator bindings first. A loaded software profile can turn a button into a keyboard press, causing one physical press to trigger two actions if the button is also assigned inside MSFS.
The X52's clutch mode can also reserve the illuminated i button. If that button does not register, open the X52 control panel and disable Enable Clutch Mode before binding it in the simulator.
Why is MSFS 2024 not detecting my X52?
First establish whether the fault exists in Windows or only inside MSFS 2024.
