Is the Majestic Q400 compatible with Prepar3D?

Adam McEnroe
In short

Check Majestic Q400 compatibility with Prepar3D v4, v5 and v6, choose the right installer, and fix common aircraft or cockpit issues.

Yes. The Majestic Software Dash 8 Q400 is compatible with Prepar3D when you install a Q400 build made for that simulator’s exact major version. Prepar3D v4 and v5 packages exist; an FSX, older P3D or v5 installer should not be assumed to work with Prepar3D v6.

Which Prepar3D versions support the Majestic Q400?

Prepar3D v4 and v5 can run the Majestic Q400 when the package explicitly names that major version.

Simulator versionRequired Q400 packageCompatibility
Prepar3D v4A package explicitly supporting P3D v4Compatible with the matching release
Prepar3D v5A package explicitly supporting P3D v5Compatible with the matching release
Prepar3D v6A Q400 release that specifically names P3D v6Do not infer support from a v5 installer
FSX or older P3D releasesThe corresponding legacy packageNot a substitute for a v4 or v5 build

The major simulator version is the key distinction. Prepar3D v4 and later are 64-bit, so an older aircraft package containing 32-bit gauges or modules cannot be made compatible by copying its SimObjects folder.

Can the Prepar3D v5 Q400 be used in v6?

A Prepar3D v5 Q400 package should be used in v6 only if its installer or release documentation explicitly adds v6 support. Major P3D releases can change the rendering, gauge and software interfaces on which complex aircraft depend; our explanation of why v5 add-ons do not automatically carry over to P3D v6 covers that distinction.

How do I check that I have the correct Q400 package?

The correct package must match both your Majestic Q400 edition and your Prepar3D major version.

  1. Identify the simulator version: confirm whether the installation is P3D v4, v5 or v6 rather than relying on the desktop shortcut name.
  2. Read the installer label and documentation: look for your P3D major version. An installer described only as FSX or P3D v5 is not confirmation of v6 support.
  3. Match the aircraft edition: PILOT, PRO and TRAINING identify different Q400 editions and feature sets. They do not override the simulator-version requirement.
  4. Install the complete aircraft: the Q400 uses gauges, systems and external components as well as the visible aircraft model. Do not port it by copying aircraft folders from FSX or another P3D installation.
  5. Test the base aircraft first: confirm that the supplied Q400 loads and operates before adding repaints or other modifications.

For the general installation process, including selecting the correct simulator and checking that an aircraft has registered properly, use our Prepar3D aircraft installation checklist.

Why does the Majestic Q400 not appear or initialise?

Most missing-aircraft and dead-cockpit problems come from an incorrect package, an incomplete installation or a component blocked from running.

  • Aircraft absent from the selection menu: check that the installer targeted the intended P3D installation and that the package supports its major version.
  • Black or unresponsive displays: first distinguish the aircraft’s normal cold-and-dark state from an installation fault. If electrical power and the supplied aircraft controls produce no response, repair the matching Q400 installation and check whether security software quarantined one of its components.
  • Missing DLL or immediate crash: remove mixed files from older Q400 packages and reinstall the complete build intended for that simulator. Copying individual gauges between FSX, P3D v4 and P3D v5 often creates this failure.
  • Failure after a P3D update: install the latest Q400 build intended for that same P3D major version rather than reusing an older installer.

Do Majestic Q400 liveries work in Prepar3D?

A Q400 livery works only when it was made for the installed Majestic base aircraft and its folder or texture format. A repaint does not include the payware Q400 or make an unsupported simulator package compatible.

For example, this RCAF Q400 repaint identifies P3D v4/v5 support and requires the Majestic Q400. That version labelling is what to look for before installing any repaint.
