Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 launched with 30 handcrafted airports in the Standard Edition. Deluxe adds five, and Premium Deluxe adds another five, giving 40 in total. These are the edition airports; free World Updates and other official content add more, so the installed total depends on your Content Manager.
MSFS 2020 handcrafted airport list by edition
The three editions are cumulative: Deluxe contains the Standard airports, while Premium Deluxe contains all Standard and Deluxe airports. Handcrafted means the airport received bespoke buildings and ground detail rather than relying mainly on generated scenery; our explanation of how handcrafted scenery differs from generated airports covers that distinction in more detail.

Why does my installation contain more handcrafted airports?
World Updates and other free official packages introduced further handcrafted airports and upgrades after the original editions launched. There is therefore no single all-time total that applies to every MSFS 2020 installation.
These extra airports are optional content and can disappear after a reinstall or when an update package is removed. Our World Update installation advice explains how to add and manage them.
Why does a handcrafted airport look generic or appear to be missing?
A handcrafted airport usually looks generic when its scenery package is not installed, has been disabled or is being affected by another package for the same ICAO code.
- Search Content Manager: use the airport’s ICAO code and confirm its official package is installed and enabled.
- Check the owned edition: Deluxe and Premium Deluxe airports require the corresponding edition entitlement and content package.
- Check optional updates: if the airport came from a World Update, install that update and any required regional content.
- Remove scenery conflicts: temporarily disable third-party scenery for the same airport or surrounding city. Duplicate packages can produce missing buildings, doubled terminals or broken taxiways.
- Restart the simulator: content changes are not always reflected correctly until MSFS has been closed and reopened.
A mistake we see often is assuming every detailed airport shown online belongs to the base edition. It may instead come from a World Update, a later official package or a separately installed add-on.
Do add-on airports replace handcrafted scenery?
An add-on covering the same ICAO normally replaces or overrides much of the stock handcrafted airport, but leaving both active can cause conflicts. Use one full airport package at a time; keep separate city or landmark scenery only when its documentation says it is compatible.
