What is NeoFly, and how do I use it with MSFS 2020?

In short

Learn what NeoFly adds to MSFS 2020, how to connect it through SimConnect, start a career, fly jobs and fix detection errors.

NeoFly is a Windows companion app that adds a career layer to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020, including jobs, pilot progression, aircraft ownership and operating costs. Install it outside the Community folder, create a pilot, connect it to a running PC copy of MSFS through SimConnect, then fly each assignment within its stated limits.

What does NeoFly add to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020?

NeoFly supplies the persistent career system that MSFS 2020 itself lacks. Depending on the NeoFly release and selected career mode, this can include cargo and passenger work, specialist missions, qualifications, reputation, finances, aircraft purchases and fleet management.

It is a companion application rather than an aircraft, scenery package or official Microsoft expansion. The core career app has been available without charge, while optional paid features have also been offered; features shown in videos or screenshots may therefore not belong to every installation.

How do I install and use NeoFly with MSFS 2020?

  1. Install the Windows application: use the NeoFly installer supplied by its developer and retain the suggested application location unless you have a reason to change it. NeoFly does not normally belong in Community; that folder is for simulator packages such as aircraft, liveries and scenery. Our MSFS mod and Community folder instructions explain that distinction.
  2. Create a pilot: open NeoFly and make a new profile. Choose the career options and starting location carefully because they determine your initial work, aircraft access and economy.
  3. Select a job: check the departure and destination airports, permitted aircraft or class, payload, range and any mission-specific restrictions. Do this before building the flight in MSFS.
  4. Load the flight in MSFS: select the aircraft expected by NeoFly and place it at the mission's departure airport, preferably at a parking position rather than already airborne. Create a suitable route in the simulator or your normal flight-planning tools.
  5. Connect through SimConnect: once the cockpit has loaded, return to NeoFly and use its connection or flight-start control. SimConnect is part of the PC simulator, so a normal local installation does not usually require a separate Community package. Confirm that NeoFly shows the simulator and aircraft as connected before moving.
  6. Set fuel and payload: let NeoFly apply them if your version provides that function; otherwise enter the dispatch values in MSFS. Avoid changing aircraft, fuel or payload after the mission has started unless the assignment explicitly requires it.
  7. Fly and complete the assignment: remain within the mission rules and avoid slew, teleportation, AI control or other shortcuts that can corrupt the recorded flight. At the destination, park inside the correct airport area and follow NeoFly's completion prompts, which may require the parking brake, engine shutdown or another aircraft state.

NeoFly must remain running while it records the flight. Closing the app, restarting MSFS or loading a different aircraft can break the assignment even if the aeroplane remains in roughly the same position.

Why won't NeoFly connect to MSFS 2020?

Most NeoFly connection failures occur because MSFS is still at a menu, Windows has blocked the companion app, or the console edition is being used.

  • No simulator connection: load fully into an aircraft before trying again, then restart NeoFly if it was opened while MSFS was updating or loading.
  • Firewall or security prompt: allow NeoFly on the appropriate private Windows network. Security software may also quarantine or restrict an unfamiliar companion executable.
  • Wrong platform: NeoFly requires a Windows PC copy of MSFS 2020. The Microsoft Store, Xbox app and Steam PC editions can use Windows companion software, but an Xbox Series X|S console cannot run NeoFly beside the simulator.
  • Connection drops during flight: disable PC sleep, keep both applications open and avoid restarting either one. A simulator crash normally ends the recorded mission unless the NeoFly version offers recovery.

Reinstalling NeoFly in the Community folder will not repair a SimConnect problem. It can instead leave an unnecessary or invalid package for MSFS to scan.

Why does NeoFly report the wrong aircraft?

NeoFly identifies aircraft using simulator data, and an add-on variant can report a different internal name from the label shown in the MSFS aircraft menu. Select the exact model and variant assigned to the job, not merely another aircraft with a similar appearance.

Use our reference to the included MSFS 2020 aircraft when choosing a known stock model. If a third-party aeroplane is missing from the simulator itself, resolve that first with the steps for making add-on aircraft appear in MSFS.

Where the NeoFly release provides an aircraft import or management function, add the correct model and verify its class, payload, range and purchase data. Substituting an unrelated aircraft merely to pass the selection check can distort mission eligibility and operating costs.

Why is a completed NeoFly mission not recognised?

A mission usually remains incomplete when the aircraft is outside the destination airport boundary or has not reached the required parked state. Stop at a proper stand, apply the parking brake, shut down as directed and wait for NeoFly to register the state before leaving MSFS.

Add-on aircraft sometimes expose engine, door or parking-brake variables differently from default aeroplanes. If one model repeatedly fails at the same stage, test the mission workflow with a stock aircraft; that separates a NeoFly connection problem from aircraft-specific telemetry.

Back up the NeoFly pilot database or use its profile backup facility before reinstalling or moving the app. Career progress is stored by NeoFly rather than in the MSFS logbook, so removing its data can erase finances, fleet records and completed jobs without affecting the simulator itself.
