  1. Connect the yoke before starting FSX. Use a direct USB port while diagnosing or configuring it rather than an unpowered hub. Keeping it on the same port also reduces the chance of FSX treating it as a newly connected controller and losing device-specific assignments.
  2. Test every control in Windows. Press the Windows key and R, enter joy.cpl, select the CH yoke and open Properties. Move the wheel fully left and right, push and pull the column, operate all three levers and press each button. The displayed axes should travel smoothly without jumping.
  3. Calibrate only when necessary. If the Properties window offers calibration, run it when an axis does not reach both ends or settle consistently. Move each requested control through its full travel. When asked for the centre position, centre the yoke wheel and column; follow the prompts for the levers rather than forcing them to an artificial midpoint.
  4. Open the correct FSX controller page. Start FSX or FSX: Steam Edition, open Settings > Controls and confirm that controllers are enabled. Select the CH Products yoke in the controller-type list before editing assignments.

  9. Map essential buttons and test in flight. Assign trim, view panning, brakes or other frequently used commands. Test first in a simple default aircraft, then use a piston aircraft with a constant-speed propeller to verify the blue propeller lever.

Which CH yoke axes should I assign in FSX?

Assign the wheel to ailerons, the push-pull column to the elevator, and the three top levers to throttle, propeller and mixture.

Use the global throttle, propeller and mixture axes when one lever should operate every engine together. Engine-specific assignments are intended for hardware with separate levers for individual engines; assigning the single black lever to only Engine 1 can leave the other engines at a different power setting.

A fixed-pitch aircraft will ignore the propeller lever, while aircraft without simulated mixture control may ignore the red lever. That is an aircraft limitation, not necessarily a failed assignment. Check the lever movement in a default aircraft that supports the relevant system before changing the configuration.

The standard yoke has no dedicated rudder axis. Do not repurpose one of its power levers as a rudder unless that is a deliberate compromise; separate pedals provide proper rudder and toe-brake control.

What sensitivity and null-zone settings work best?

High axis sensitivity with the smallest stable null zone is the best starting point for a CH Flight Yoke in FSX.

  • Keep aileron and elevator sensitivity high so full physical travel produces full virtual control deflection.
  • Start with a zero or very small null zone when the yoke remains steady at its physical centre.
  • Increase the null zone one step at a time if a small centre offset makes the aircraft roll or pitch.
  • Reduce sensitivity only modestly if the response feels too abrupt, then check that full control travel remains available.
  • Do not use a large null zone to conceal spikes. It masks only movement near the centre and cannot correct noise across the axis range.

Judge drift in the Windows test first. If the crosshair or axis bars jump in joy.cpl, changing FSX sensitivity will not repair the underlying USB, calibration or hardware problem. If Windows is stable but the aircraft still pitches, centre the elevator trim and disconnect the autopilot before blaming the yoke.

Which buttons should I map on the CH Products Flight Yoke?

Do I need CH Control Manager for FSX?

No. A straightforward USB CH Products Flight Sim Yoke can operate as a standard Windows game controller without a custom profile.

Direct input is usually the simpler choice because FSX sees the physical yoke and stores assignments against that device. Profile software is useful only when you deliberately need remapped buttons, combined devices or a virtual controller.

If an existing profile exposes a mapped or virtual CH device, assign either that virtual device or the physical yoke—not both. Using both paths can double the axes, change button numbering and make assignments appear to vanish when the profile is inactive.

How should I add CH rudder pedals?

Connect the pedals as a separate controller, assign only the Rudder Axis and individual left and right brake axes to them, then remove conflicting rudder and brake bindings from other devices.
