Set up FSLTL in MSFS 2024 on PC: install both packages, prevent duplicate traffic, launch the injector and fix missing aircraft.
To set up FSLTL in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, install both FSLTL Base Models and the Traffic Injector through the FlyByWire Installer, targeting the MSFS 2024 Community folder. Disable the simulator’s native AI/live traffic and parked-aircraft generation, load a flight, then start the injector and confirm that it connects.
FSLTL is a PC-only setup. Its injector is an external Windows program, so it cannot run on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 or PS5 Pro.
What must I install for FSLTL?
A complete FSLTL installation has two separate components, and each performs a different job:
- FSLTL Base Models supplies the aircraft models and airline liveries. Installing this package alone does not generate traffic.
- FSLTL Traffic Injector adds live aircraft and their flight information to the simulator. Without the model package, aircraft may be missing or replaced by unsuitable generic models.
Install both components if you want FSLTL to create airline traffic. Base Models can be used alone for online-network model matching. Our explanation of how injectors and aircraft model libraries work together covers the distinction in more detail.
How do I install FSLTL in MSFS 2024?
- Close Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. Installing or updating Community packages while the simulator is running can leave it using an old package index.
- Open the FlyByWire Installer. Select its MSFS 2024 profile or installation option rather than an older Microsoft Flight Simulator installation.
- Check the installation path. It must point to the Community folder actually used by MSFS 2024. Do not assume that a previous MSFS installation shares the same folder.
- Install FSLTL Base Models. Let the installer finish before closing it or changing the package path.
- Install FSLTL Traffic Injector. Keep both components updated together to avoid mismatched model or injector data.
- Verify the packages if anything looks wrong. Each package folder should contain files such as
manifest.jsonandlayout.jsonat its package root, not inside an extra nested folder.
A mistake we see constantly is installing the packages into the MSFS 2020 Community folder while launching MSFS 2024. Reinstalling through the correct simulator profile is safer than copying an old installation by hand.
Which MSFS 2024 traffic settings should I use?
Turn off traffic generated by the simulator itself so FSLTL remains the only airline-traffic injector.
| Setting | Recommended value | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Native AI or live air traffic | Off | Prevents duplicate aircraft and competing traffic logic. |
| Ground or parked aircraft density | 0 | Leaves parking stands available and removes generic static aircraft. |
| Generic models for AI traffic | Off, if shown | Allows FSLTL’s installed models and liveries to be used. |
| Multiplayer traffic | Your preference | It is separate from FSLTL but adds more aircraft and processing load. |
| Airport vehicles and workers | Optional | Lower these only if a busy airport is congested or performing poorly. |
Menu names can change between simulator updates, so search the traffic settings for the equivalent options if the wording differs. Turning native traffic off does not disable aircraft injected externally by FSLTL.
How do I start the FSLTL Traffic Injector?
- Launch MSFS 2024 and load into the cockpit. Waiting until the flight has fully loaded avoids connection failures during the loading screens.
- Start the injector. Use the run control in the FlyByWire Installer or the installed injector shortcut where available.
- Complete any configuration prompts. Use the defaults for the first test rather than immediately maximising aircraft counts.
- Confirm the simulator connection. The injector window should report a connection and begin showing activity or injected-aircraft counts.
- Keep the injector window open. Closing it stops active injection and traffic management.
The injector uses live traffic data rather than reconstructing historical traffic for an arbitrary simulator date. Results also vary by airport, time and the available source data, so an empty regional field is not automatically an installation fault.
Why is FSLTL not showing aircraft in MSFS 2024?
Wrong package paths, an injector waiting for input and duplicate traffic systems cause most FSLTL problems.
| Symptom | What to check |
|---|---|
| Injector cannot find the simulator | Load fully into a flight, then restart the injector. Run both programs normally rather than forcing only one to use administrator privileges, and allow the injector through Windows security prompts. |
| Injector connects but no traffic appears | Check that its console is not waiting for a configuration response, that the internet connection is working and that both FSLTL components are installed. |
| Aircraft are invisible or generic | Confirm Base Models is in the MSFS 2024 Community folder. Update both packages and remove obsolete duplicate copies from other add-on managers or linked folders. |
| Some airlines or types have the wrong livery | This can be normal. If no exact model and livery combination exists, model matching selects the closest usable substitute. |
| Every flight appears twice | Disable built-in live or AI traffic, set parked-aircraft density to zero and close any second traffic injector. |
| Traffic causes stutters | Reduce active IFR aircraft first, followed by the injection radius and additional parked aircraft. |
If the simulator recognises neither package, temporarily test with an otherwise clean Community folder containing only FSLTL. That distinguishes a bad path from a conflict without requiring a full simulator reset.
How much FSLTL traffic should I inject?
Start with the injector defaults and adjust one setting at a time; there is no universal best aircraft count.
- Active IFR aircraft has the greatest effect on moving airline traffic and main-thread load.
- Injection radius matters most while cruising because it controls how much surrounding traffic is maintained.
- Additional parked aircraft makes hubs look busier but consumes parking stands and rendering resources.
For airport spotting, favour parked aircraft and a smaller surrounding radius. For an airline flight, use fewer decorative parked aircraft and retain enough airborne traffic to populate the route. Maximising every option usually produces worse traffic behaviour as well as lower performance.
If you are still deciding between FSLTL and another approach, our comparison of MSFS AI traffic options explains where live injection, offline traffic and built-in traffic each fit.
Can I use FSLTL with vPilot or another injector?
You can use FSLTL Base Models with vPilot, but you should not run the FSLTL Traffic Injector at the same time as a network client that already supplies traffic.
For VATSIM, leave the injector closed and configure the model library through your VMR files instead. Our vPilot model-matching instructions for MSFS 2024 explain the correct priority order and Community-folder checks.
The same one-injector rule applies to other AI traffic tools. Running two injectors alongside native live traffic creates duplicates, parking conflicts and unnecessary CPU load.
Does FSLTL replace the MSFS 2024 ATC system?
FSLTL injects aircraft and flight information; it does not replace Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024’s air traffic control.
The simulator may recognise and communicate with injected aircraft, but separation, taxi behaviour and gate allocation remain subject to the simulator’s AI and ATC limitations. Missing or imperfect ATC calls do not necessarily mean the FSLTL connection has failed.
