How do I use ground services in X-Plane 12?

To use ground services in X-Plane 12, park accurately, set the parking brake or chocks, stop the engines and switch off the beacon. Connect power, stairs or jetway, fuel and loaders; remove everything in reverse order before pushback.

There is no universal ground-services panel that works identically with every X-Plane 12 aircraft and airport. The available vehicles, controls and working systems depend on the aircraft, scenery and installed plugins.

Where are the X-Plane 12 ground service controls?

How do I run a complete ground-handling turnaround?

A reliable turnaround starts by securing the aircraft and ends by clearing every vehicle before releasing the brakes.

  1. Park on the stand accurately. Stop on the painted centreline with the nose wheel near the stand marker. A jetway, tug or loader may fail to reach an aircraft parked too far forward, sideways or at the wrong stand.
  2. Secure the aircraft. Set the parking brake and fit chocks if the aircraft supports them. Establish APU or ground power as required, shut down the engines and turn off the anti-collision beacon. Many ground-service tools deliberately keep staff and vehicles away while the beacon is on.
  3. Choose one service controller. Use the aircraft’s own EFB where available; it normally communicates properly with custom doors, fuel tanks and electrical buses. Do not call a second plugin to operate the same tug, stairs or doors.
  4. Connect external power. Call the GPU, wait until it is positioned, then select external power inside the cockpit. A visible cable or vehicle does not prove that the aircraft is receiving electricity—check the electrical source indication or bus voltage.

  6. Set fuel and payload. For a complex airliner, use its custom loading page unless its manual directs otherwise. For a simpler aircraft, use X-Plane’s weight-and-balance controls. Enter fuel, passengers and cargo only once; using both loaders can double the payload or overwrite the intended centre of gravity.
  7. Call the remaining services. Add baggage, catering, cleaning or waste vehicles where supported. Some are visual only, while others use a timer or must finish before the plugin allows departure.
  8. Clear the stand for departure. Close and verify the doors, remove loaders, catering vehicles, stairs or jetway, and then disconnect ground power once the APU or another electrical source is available. Keep the aircraft secured until the tug is attached and the pushback controller tells you to release the parking brake.

Why do ground services not appear or move?

Most missing or stationary ground vehicles are caused by aircraft state, poor stand positioning, unsupported scenery or two add-ons trying to control the same service.

  • Nothing appears: check the aircraft EFB and Plugins menu rather than assuming there is a default keyboard shortcut. Search X-Plane’s command assignments for the specific function if you want to bind a key.
  • The service is unavailable: set the parking brake, stop the engines, turn off the beacon and confirm that the required door is available. Some aircraft also require chocks.
  • The vehicle stops short: reposition on the stand centreline. Custom aircraft dimensions or an incorrect plugin profile can place doors and service points in the wrong location.
  • Vehicles cannot reach the aircraft: the airport may lack suitable service-vehicle routes, or scenery objects may block them. Test at a default airport to separate an aircraft problem from a scenery problem.
  • Two sets of vehicles appear: disable overlapping ground-service features. Running an aircraft’s integrated handler and a general plugin together often creates duplicate tugs, stairs and GPUs.
  • A plugin does not load: confirm that it is installed in the correct X-Plane plugin folder and supports your operating system and simulator build. Review Log.txt after closing X-Plane for loading errors or missing dependencies.

Do ground vehicles really add fuel and payload?

Only an integrated service changes the aircraft’s actual fuel, mass or systems; an animation alone may have no operational effect.

After refuelling or loading, verify the indicated tank quantity, total mass and centre of gravity in the aircraft or simulator. Check that external power has energised the correct buses as well. A mistake we see constantly is assuming that a parked fuel truck has changed the fuel quantity when it is merely scenery animation.

Custom airliners often maintain their own passenger, cargo and fuel model. Using X-Plane’s generic loading controls after the aircraft’s EFB can reset that model, distribute fuel incorrectly or produce a different take-off mass from the one entered in the flight computer.

Which ground-handling method should I use?

Use the aircraft’s integrated EFB for a detailed airliner, a single compatible plugin for common vehicles across several aircraft, and X-Plane’s basic controls when you only need fuel, payload or pushback.

Avoid assembling several add-ons that all control doors, jetways and tugs. One ground handler plus any aircraft-specific systems is usually easier to troubleshoot and less likely to produce duplicate vehicles or brake conflicts.

When should I contact ATC and start pushback?

Finish loading, close the doors and clear the stand before requesting or beginning pushback, unless your chosen ATC procedure directs otherwise.
