How do I open NVIDIA Game Filter in MSFS 2024?
NVIDIA Freestyle appears as Game Filter in the NVIDIA overlay and should be configured after loading into an actual flight.
- Update the NVIDIA software. Install a suitable NVIDIA graphics driver and the NVIDIA app, then restart Windows if either was changed.

Colour, brightness and restrained sharpening are the most useful choices, but the available names depend on the GPU, driver and NVIDIA app version.

There is no universal numerical preset because monitor calibration, HDR mode, weather, time of day and cockpit exposure all alter the result. Tune in daylight first, then check the same preset during a dark-cockpit or night flight before keeping it.
Why is NVIDIA Freestyle not working in MSFS 2024?
If Alt+F3 does not work, the usual causes are a disabled overlay, failed game detection, a shortcut conflict or an unsupported filter.
- No overlay appears: confirm NVIDIA Overlay is enabled, try
Alt+Z, and check that another application has not claimed the shortcut. - “A supported game is required” appears: update the NVIDIA app and driver, let the app rescan its game locations, and try again from a loaded flight. Freestyle relies on an NVIDIA game profile; pointing the app at an arbitrary launcher does not create filter support.
- The panel opens but a filter is missing: individual RTX or HDR effects have additional GPU, display and Windows requirements. Missing one effect does not necessarily mean basic colour and contrast filters are broken.
- It fails on a laptop: verify that MSFS 2024 is using the NVIDIA discrete GPU rather than integrated graphics.
- The shortcut works inconsistently: avoid running MSFS with administrator privileges while the NVIDIA app runs normally, or vice versa. Mismatched privilege levels can prevent overlay input.
- The simulator crashes or shows a black screen: remove all filters, disable the overlay and test again. If the problem began after changing NVIDIA software, use our overlay-specific NVIDIA crash checks before reinstalling the simulator.
If the unsupported-game message remains after updating and rescanning, that NVIDIA app and driver combination is not exposing Freestyle to MSFS 2024. There is no in-simulator setting that can force support.
Do Freestyle filters reduce FPS or fix blurry graphics?
Freestyle consumes some GPU time and cannot restore detail that MSFS 2024 never rendered in the first place.
Simple colour adjustments are generally lighter than AI-based RTX effects, but the actual cost depends on resolution, GPU load and the filters being stacked. Compare performance in the same aircraft, location, weather and camera view with the preset enabled and disabled.

Sharpening can make an initially soft picture look clearer, but it can also amplify noise, ghosting and distant shimmer; those require anti-aliasing and shimmer corrections rather than a stronger filter.

Can I use NVIDIA Freestyle on Xbox or PlayStation?
No. NVIDIA Freestyle requires the Windows NVIDIA app and a compatible NVIDIA GPU, so it is unavailable in the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 versions of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. Desktop Freestyle presets also should not be relied upon to alter the image shown inside a VR headset.
